i am kind of torn with this. i am happy that he did not do any idiotic trades as rumored ( cassell, van horn, etc.). but i thought he still nedded to make a move. he should have traded one of our point guards. ward is the most tradeable asset. now he has to scramble to maybe trade him to another team in the summer. can we buyout his contract this summer? i am glad that he did not get desperate and bite on some of the dumb offers for spree. we can wait until this summer. remember, every year he is on our roster he is more tradeable. next year, with only one year left on his contract, you will see a LOT of takers. i remember juwan howard was the most untradeable player you can get. since then, he has been traded twice. it can be done. then we can get a young small forward or center hopefully. well, we can look forward to the draft but everyone else in the east besides indy, nj, detroit and boston are sucking so we might end up in the playoffs anyway. i hope he is right thinking mcdyess is going to be back on track for next year. i am kind of skeptical since i have'nt heard an update on his condition for a month. i know he started rigorous rehab. this could make or break a person.

I wonder what the logistics of the Ward contract is.... I know there is a $2M buyout, but can the Knicks trade Ward before the beginning of next season and after end of 2002-3 season but pre-buyout? That's the only way they could use him as a chip.

Ward will be worth more this summer. Layden could have made a trade but good thing he didnt. Layden was thinking too big and this team needs to be tweaked for now. No move could make us contenders this year. Layden wants to land the big one or else he doesnt want to trade. Thats a bad habit Layden has because he has no real plan.

Honestly, if i were Layden and needed to trade one of my point guards, it would be Howard Eisley. He's the one with the killer contract until 2006-2007 and as he continues to play well, his stock is increasing. We all know Charlie ward is becoming more valuable in terms of a trade due to his salary. The only way i trade ward is via a package of knicks players and get back a bonifide player that would immediately move the knicks towards a championship. Otherwise, i'd keep ward so we could personally buy him out. Remember Lj's and Longley's contract will finally be removed from the payroll this summer. That's 15mm off the books!!!
