Marbury
Q. Rich
Lee
Frye
Curry

Collins
Balkman
Rose

Option #1 is obviously clear out and take the leash off of Curry. But it's pointless unless the help defender respects the shooters that are around Curry. Marbury, Q and others have to establish that they can score consistently when they leave to help on Curry so that the defense is always on its heels. We've seen when they brick shots or if Jeffries/Balkman are out there, they don't respect the scorers around Curry and just pack in. You can't just force feed Curry. If it's not there, show you can score from the outside or off the dribble and get into the paint. Take care of the ball, last in the league in turnovers won't get it done. AND REBOUND!!!

On defense the help defense has to be johnny on the spot, which it hasn't been all season. The help defense's big problem has been that it's been late all year long, Frye and Curry are big culprits. Frye and Curry have to start blocking some shots and not care about the fouls (I mean use their head, but be physical). As for our guards they need to be the ones who initiate the action, not just stand staring at their man in a defensive stance waiting for him to do something which is what they always do. Good defenders disrupt a player's rhythm, make him put the ball down one more time, think twice about his shot, force him left instead of right, out of his comfort zone. Too often our guards get burned because their defenders aren't even looking at them, you see them and they look like they are in such a rhythm, like they're running drills at the gym. They'll let them go left, take 3 dribbles, pull up, shoot, bang... every single time.

C - Curry
PF - D Lee
SF - Q Rich
SG - Collins
PG - Marbury
6 - Balkman
7 - Frye
8 - Francis

I'm keeping Francis in the rotation because I think it's important that we try & restore some of his trade value going into the offseason... he showed that he can still play & i haven't seen him as mobile as he's been lately in a long time... those dunks in traffic are a huge sign also... he needs to see some minutes... Nate can wait his turn... i like Mardy's defense in the starting rotation, & Frye is our only real option to back up Curry at C at this point, so i keep him coming off the bench.

Offensive Scheme: I would keep focusing on Curry down low & developing his game, but the G's need to start getting him the ball while he's in motion instead of just strictly on post ups to switch things up a bit... i also would run Balkman, Francis & D Lee on a lot of backdoor cuts, & post up Q Rich in the paint whenever Curry's off the floor.

Defensive Scheme: I'd run a lot of 1-2-2 zone, & if i go man, i make sure Balkman or Mardy are guarding on the ball whenever they're on the floor... Marbs is not a great on ball defender, but he does a good job bodying up & fighting for position, so i don't mind him guarding bigger G's or SF's off the ball... try to keep Curry off low post scoring bigmen as much as possible, w/either Channing or D Lee guarding them in the paint.

Steph, Q, Collins, Lee and Curry
Francis, Balkman, Jared, Frye

We don't really have enough outside shooting. You can see why isiah was trying to get Rashard. having a Forward who can knock down 3's would be a huge asset. I'd get Frye more involved in the pick and pop game and as TMS mentions, get Curry the ball in motion or real early once he establishes position. They could use more cutters too. Instead of having Curry trying to make so many long passes. Make it easier on him by having player cut to the basket. There are LOTS of ways to counter all this doubling. I'd also post up Q and Lee more. Lee can make that pass to a cutting Curry or Frye, but we have to change things up and use guys in different ways. The league has adjusted and now Isiah MUST adjust his gameplan. Put some new wrinkles in.

This is the key. Curry is a fairly quick footed big man. I recall a few games when they got him the ball on the move. They have gotten from that with all the double teams. We need to start getting Curry the ball in motion. Additionally, we need to start making better passes out of the double team. Kenny mentioned this during the last game. Curry will pass the ball out of the double and we take far too long passing the ball around to the open man. By the time the ball gets to the other side of the court, the defense has already recovered (or recovered more than they should have been able to do) and Q or someone else is taking a contested or semi-contested 3. We need to make crisper passes on the perimeter to give Q and others cleaner looks at their jumpshots.

starting 5:
Marbury
Francis
Balkman
Lee
Curry

3 reserves:
QRich, Rose, Collins
(Frye, Nate and James, etc. are garbage. Rose atleast plays defense.)

Offensive scheme
Lots of pick and rolls with Marbury/Francis and Lee. Lee and Balk dishing to Curry. Essentially, I want Lee involved in every offensive play, because he understands spacing, movement and motion. Marbs, Curry and Francis will have the biggest stats (in that order), but Lee is the common thread and the Knicks Most Important Player.

Defensive scheme
Prayer... a COMMITMENT to ANY defensive scheme would be a vast upgrade to what's currently in place, which is not a damn thing.

the thing we have to be careful of while we do that though, is to make sure the other guys on the perimeter don't just stand there doing nothing while we're doing this, because if that happens, the guys that are guarding them can easily step in & draw a charge on Eddy as he catches the ball... we need to run a lot of elaborate motion plays to keep defenses from predicting when & where the ball will go into Eddy... that's where the backdoor cuts from Balkman, D Lee & Francis comes in handy IMO.

it's not that i'm that high on him, but w/o Jamal we need a G to come off the bench, & i would prefer to keep Francis coming off the bench & have Collins' size & defense in the backcourt to start off games... i'd play Q at the SG, but that would mean i'd have to have Jefferies in the rotation, & IMO he's an absolute liability.

He should work on finding some new exuses.
The old ones... are getting old.
But I think he will be OK - he is very creative in this category...
