We traded Patrick Ewing and pick #18 for Glen Rice, some stiffs, pick #27, and two 2nd rounders.
We traded Erick Strickland and that #27 pick we just got for Othella Harrington.

So all we have to show for Ewing are two second round picks, and Othella Harrington and no Strickland (who we gave up a #1 to acquire in the first place).

If we never trade Ewing, we would have picked #18... guys chosen from 18-27 were:

Zack Randolph
Gerald Wallace
Sam Dalembert

If we never trade Strickland for Harrington, we would have picked 27, guys we could've had:

Jamaal Tinsley
Tony Parker
Trenton Hassel
Gilbert Arenas
Mehmet Okur

Right after Okur gets picked in front of us, Layden selects Michael Wright bypassing Earl Watson and Bobby Simmons (and Jamison Brewer hehe) and then takes Eric Chenowith while Carlos Arroyo goes undrafted.

Lesson: Use your draft picks, even when they are late picks, you can find building blocks.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Isiah would have selected wallace, i loved him and wanted him and you could tell in his short glimpses in sac town he was going to be good.

And Actually if Dale Davis gets you Jermaine Oneal I think that Ewing could have actually got you him, there was talk but the knicks were very relectant. In which case our frontline right now would be JO and Camby

imagine JO, camby, and gerald wallace as our front line...we'd probably average 12 blocks per game

Its funny we don't make a bigger stink about the pick that could've become Arenas, Parker, or Okur. Instead, someone thought Othella Harrington was what this team needed. IF so, why did we then sign Clarence Weatherspoon? And was signing Eisley better than keeping Strickland and the #1?

Maybe a complete list of all of the bad moves made by our GM's through the years, and all of the missed draft opportunities would make a much more interesting topic. Why is it that it seems the fans know what is best during drafts and the GM's just keep picking against the grain?

Man' you said a mouth full with all of those old names.

Bottom line is scott layden was the worse GM in the history of pro sports.

Yeah... I kind of resent my father for this reason. Good dad, but contaminated me with the plague.

I think layden was awful, terrible, disgraceful but he never brought in quitters, which we could have used to get a draft pick....

Bill Simmons is right about NBA GMS, i would say that more than 50% are not qualified. Your telling me you hire Wiesbrod because he has executive experience in hockey to be your nba gm, so scary. And frankly when fans question fans when they say they can run an organization better, you should believe them......

McChale.....
Knight.....
King.....
Babcock....
Weisbrod....
Baylor......
Nash......
etc, etc, etc,
