The Seattle SuperSonics have called a 5 p.m. ET press conference to announce they have traded All-Star guard Gary Payton to the Milwaukee Bucks for All-Star guard Ray Allen.

The swap is believed to be a three- or four-team, multi-player deal which also involves the New Orleans Hornets and, possibly, the New York Knicks.

Sources confirmed to SportsLine.com that the Sonics will deal Payton and Desmond Mason to the Bucks in exchange for Allen, point guard Kevin Ollie and center Joel Przybilla.

In a separate deal, the Sonics also are sending point guard Kenny Anderson to the Hornets for Elden Campbell.

Sources also tell SportsLine.com that Sam Cassell (Bucks) and Latrell Sprewell of the Knicks might also be involved.

Doesn't involve the Knicks. It's only a three team deal.

Right. Perhaps Cassell is being moved as well.

Seattle just dumped both its PG's. What, is Kevin Ollie going to play the point?

I don't get this...

Who's gonna play the point for Seattle?

And how are Payton and Cassell going to co-exist in Milwaukee?
We suck.

If Cassell is as Knicks, I refuse to watch any more Knick games. Cassell isnt what NY is about.

Sources confirmed to SportsLine.com that the Sonics will deal Payton and Desmond Mason to the Bucks in exchange for Allen and guards Kevin Ollie and Ronald Murray .

The swap is believed to be a three- or four-team, multi-player deal which also involves the New Orleans Hornets and, possibly, the New York Knicks.

The speculation is that the Knicks are completing a deal with the Bucks that could include Sam Cassell and Joel Przybilla going to New York and Latrell Sprewell coming to his hometown of Milwaukee.

In a separate deal, the Sonics also are sending point guard Kenny Anderson to the Hornets for Elden Campbell.

The deal comes as Payton, 34, was about to play his 1,000th game for the Sonics, and it will be against the Bucks on Friday night, coached by former Sonics coach George Karl. Payton is a nine-time All-Star and the Sonics all-time leader in many categories, including scoring assists and steals. He is currently leading the NBA in assists at 8.8, while scoring 20.8 points a game. He will be a free agent at the end of the season.

Ollie, a 30-year-old journeyman averaging 5.7 points and 3.4 assists in 21.3 minutes a game, is expected to replace Payton, the second pick overall in the 1990 draft by the Sonics.

Allen, 27, is averaging 21.3 points and 3.5 assists a game. A three-time all-star, Allen is on the fourth year of a six-year, $71 million contract and has recently been named to the United States National Team for the 2004 Olympics. Mason, a 6-foot-6 defensive specialist averaging 14.2 points a game or existing sixth man Michael Redd will replace Allen for the Bucks.

Anderson is another point guard and free agent to be, and the Hornets are, in effect, renting him to help with All-Star point guard Baron Davis currently recovering from knee surgery and still dealing with a herniated disc. Campbell, a 6-11 center, has been hampered by knee problems all season and will be a free agent at the end of this season as well.

Przybilla, 23, is a 7-1 center who has played in 19 games for the Bucks this season.

The only way it works is if the knicks trade spree and harrington for Earvin Johnson, Caffey and Cassell. Thats too many players to give up on the Bucks end. I personally don't see this trade happening...
