Anyone think that Collins can be the guard of the future? Like Charlie Ward?

I would like my point guard to be able to create off the dribble as well as play defense. I'm not sure if Mardy can pass. HIs dribbling also looks suspect. But he can improve on his offense without a doubt.

Mardy can be our future point guard as long as we get a solid 2 guard. To be honest I think Isiah is preparing Jamal to eventually play point for this team.

Mardy might be similar to Charlie Ward, but the question has to be asked, is that what's best for the Knicks?

I don't know about Mardy and his George Jefferson hair line as a starter, but he could be a solid backup.

I think Collins will be a better player than Ward, he is just a spot-up shot away really. I believe that will come quickly, maybe before this season is out.

Ward was nice at getting steals but he(And Childs) got massacred by opposing PG's night in and out during their career -- without striking back enough.

Having said that, Collins is probably a good backup, just like Ward should have been.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

One thing he needs to work on is his jumpshot, during the Hawk's game he obviously lacked the confidence to shoot. He passed up on a couple of open looks and deferred to Marbs w/ only a couple of seconds left on the shotclock on a couple of key posessions...if Marbs' shot wasn't falling we would have been screwed.
But then again he's learning and Marb's was being the leader he was falling back & relying on.

I don't think Collins is a point guard. He can run the point at times but I don't think that's his position in the NBA. He's a 2 guard. I think he's a good player. He's definately a NBA talent. I think he is too anxious and just trying to be perfect. He's gonna be alright.

As far as Craw being groomed for the point? Craw is no spring chicken. Craw is the same age as Q. Craw is just as much a point guard as wade and arenas is. Of course those guys are more consistant scorers but neither is a point guard either.

At this point, he's a backup and can probably back either guard position. He does need to improve aspects of his game as most rookies do.

i think collins is better at PG than SG. he's a little lengthy but he's got speed to stay with smaller guys, and his passing/decision making is better than his really bad jump shot (I think marbury said something like early in the season he couldn't hit the ocean with a stone). as a bonus he's actually shown he can defend bigger guys pretty well too.

He's a back-up combo guard who can play the point. He's bigger than Ward, but at least Ward could shoot the spot up three. Mardy is a horrible shooter, and has a suspect handle.

I like his length, which will enable him to get alot of steals and deflections. Plays under control, and usually makes the pass to start the offense. Doesn't seem like much of a play-maker on the offensive end.

Mardy played PG all four years at Temple. I don't believe he ever played SG for them. He can shoot but he's not a high percentage shooter and though he has the size for SG, I think he is skilled as a PG.

When you have someone (Mardy) who is 6'6" and can pass the rock, can dribble (ok) and see's the court very very well, you keep him in that position. I could see if he was a SG in College and we are asking if he can play PG now, but he can play PG, played PG very successfully in College, and is not doing so bad in his minutes lately.

Mardy has too much going for him at PG to give up and move him to SG. I need to see him play better but I think his handle is ok, he was just nervous. He will come along.

For now he has this look on his face - "Mama, I am so scared..."
When he will get some confidence we will be able to see what he has.
Ane he will have the opportunity only if we will drop from playoff race early.
This is unlikely zo... So he will most likely go to some other team where he can actually get some minutes...

he's about a future pg as frank was.

frank was deer in the headlights his rookie year. he lost 15 lbs that summer and became a better player. to the point where he started, went 3-0, then got hurt and marbury came and the rest was history.

collins? tough to expect a starting pg with the #29 pick.

when was Charlie ever our PG of the future?

seriously tho, i've always thought Collins seemed like he could be a solid backup for us... the only way he could start is if you had some superstar player on the perimeter like Kobe or Lebron (a-la Eric Snow's role in CLE)... he's not a scoring threat off the dribble, so you need someone who can score the ball playing alongside him... Marbury's been playing like a star the past few weeks, so if he keeps this up, i wouldn't mind seeing Mardy starting games.

Best case for Collins is being a 5-10 min backup. Most likely he'll be playing in Europe after Isiah's 3 year gift is expired.
