2007 first round draft pick to Chicago
Chicago has the right to swap its own 2007 1st round pick with New York’s own 2007 1st round pick, provided that New York is not obligated to trade such pick to Utah via Phoenix. If New York is obligated to convey its own 2007 1st round pick to Utah via Phoenix, then New York's obligations to convey a 1st round pick to Chicago are extinguished. [Chicago – New York, 10/4/2005]

2007 first round draft pick to Utah
New York’s own 2007 1st round pick to Utah via Phoenix (top 24 protected in the 2007 Draft, top 23 protected in the 2008 Draft, top 22 protected in 2009 and unprotected in the 2010 Draft). [New York – Phoenix, 1/5/2004 and then Phoenix – Utah, 2/19/2004]

2007 second round draft pick to Philadelphia
New York’s own 2007 2nd round pick to Philadelphia via Chicago [Chicago – New York, 10/4/2005 and then Chicago - Philadelphia, 6/28/2006]

2009 second round draft pick to Chicago
New York’s own 2009 2nd round pick to Chicago [Chicago – New York, 10/4/2005]

Thanks for information DJ. I am sure everyone feels MUCH MORE informed because of the post you made about our picks.

SOOOOOOOOOO...what's your point. Ummm, let me guess...oh, you want to continually drill in the point about how much we gave up to get Eddy and Marbury.

The sheer brilliance!

so basically, we have our own pick in 2008 and 2009. I'd say if things don't look good by the all-star break next year (08) go into full tank mode, fire isiah, trade off as many contracts as possible and aim for a high pick in the 08 draft. do the same in 09. after the 09 season, I believe Marbury and Francis come off the books and we have a shot at cap room.

that's best case realistic rebuild.

Yes, if you repeat things...for no reason at all, you think people listen more.

Jamal shoots 64.5% in the final three minutes of games.

SO what's the point of putting this up?

I don't even know why there's an issue with regard to our draft picks. We got the guy we wanted in Curry, so it doesn't matter about what he gave up for him. If he valued him that highly then that's how he felt. We don't know if Chicago would've taken less, cuz none of us were in the negotiations. That's just the media's perception and they don't know either.

Since Isiah has been pretty solid drafting I don't worry about that very much either. I'm sure that he'll find a player that fits our needs in these upcoming drafts. It not about this one season and never was. If your building a team it's a process. No one seems to want to be patient. Ariza is finally starting to show some progress and Balkman is already ahead of where Ariza was. So isn't there a chance that he will continue to improve his game as well? I think we tend to give up on Frye too quickly as well. It's not like he has no skills. To me Frye only has to refine the skills he already has. Get stronger and more confident. Those are natural things that happen to young players anyway. So why give up on him so young? Same can be said for Nate and Collins.

We have drafted VERY well IMO. We've got another shot this year to pick up some help. I think we all know it's most likely gonna be a big scoring guard or a PG. At worst we might have to settle on a shotblocker, but I think we'll address one of our needs this draft and the next.

If New York is obligated to convey its own 2007 1st round pick to Utah via Phoenix, then New York's obligations to convey a 1st round pick to Chicago are extinguished.

what would you guys prefer... to keep the pick & swap w/CHI this season & still owe UTA a pick in the coming years, or to get it over with & just give CHI's pick over to UTA this year & not owe any 1st rounders after this season?

So if Chicago's pick is worse than no. 24 this year, we have to give it up? That sucks!

I'm reading it differently -

Chicago has the right to swap its own 2007 1st round pick with New York’s own 2007 1st round pick, provided that New York is not obligated to trade such pick to Utah via Phoenix. If New York is obligated to convey its own 2007 1st round pick to Utah via Phoenix, then New York's obligations to convey a 1st round pick to Chicago are extinguished.

I think that means that if the pick that is based on our record is worse than 24, it goes to Utah and Chicago doesn't get to swap. Can anyone clear this up?

Ira, you're right, if we have a pick worse than 24 it goes to Utah and Chicago has no swap rights with us.

But what is not clear is if we trade our pick for the Chicago pick, and the Chicago pick is worse than 24, if we have to trade that pick over to Utah.

this gives us a clear understanding of where we are in terms of picks and the position we're in to improve the team via the draft.

2007 first round draft pick to Utah
New York’s own 2007 1st round pick

that seems pretty unambiguous to me. Utah doesn't get Chicago's pick, they get a bona fide New York Knicks #1.

In that case we're probably not giving them a pick till 2010.

DJ showed that he doesn't. You said this so people would believe and never get called on it. Posters should be aware how much this happens on this board, it's really bad.
