Surprised this already wan't posted...

March 2, 2007 -- The Knicks have explored signing free agent swingman Jimmy Jackson to fill the massive void left by Jamal Crawford's season-ending stress fracture injury, The Post has learned.
Jackson, 36, is a burly 6-foot-6 and could play small forward or shooting guard. He is known around the league as a player with good character. Jackson played last season for the Suns and Lakers, but was not picked up this year. He has been working out at his home in Toledo, Ohio.

The Knicks made inquiries into Jackson following Wednesday night's crushing loss to the Celtics, the team with the worst record in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks fell behind by 23 points to Boston in the first half in their first game without Crawford.

It is believed one of the Knicks' brass interviewed Jackson yesterday.

Mark Termini, Jackson's agent, confirmed the Knicks contacted him yesterday about Jackson, a 14-year veteran. For the third straight day, however, Knicks coach/president Isiah Thomas said he is not planning on signing a free agent, claiming he wants to sink or swim with his young players. Nevertheless, the Knicks' inquiries into Jackson are a clear indication of how seriously the brass believes the team can make a playoff run.

Jackson could be signed for the veteran's minimum: a prorated $1 million.

Jackson's addition, at the very least, would be insurance against Quentin Richardson going down again with a chronic back injury. Jackson also would provide veteran savvy on a club that will be forced to give heavy minutes to second-year player Nate Robinson and rookie Mardy Collins. The Knicks' interest in Jackson also is a clear indication they don't believe Steve Francis and his right knee tendinitis will hold up. Thomas may be waiting to see how they fare in a back-to-back set tonight and tomorrow against Golden State and Atlanta before deciding on making a move.

Termini said the Knicks have not made an offer to his client.

MotherFucker. We finally are looking to sign Jimmy Jackson, albeit 10 years AFTER I wanted him!

I used to love Jimmy Jackson and wanted him bad when hings were breaking off in Dallas. He is not a savior but I guess he is a good space filler. Him 10 years ago is the exact type of SG I love, BTW.

If I was Isiah, I would personally go after someone younger considering we are in a the rebuilding Ebb of you rebuilding/competing eb and flow.

I like Vince Grier.

i'm surprised he wasn't already picked up by another team... he'd be a nice addition... he actually plays defense & he can hit an open jumper... he's old, but i think he can still give you a good 15-20 a night.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

Jimmy would be a nice addition but it would not make a difference.. Knicks will not make the playoffs.

How much does he has left since he's not already 36 yrs old but haven't played since last yr.

OMG!! If Jimmy becomes a knick, that would be the 3rd JJ on this team.

Jerome james
Jared Jeffries
Jimmy Jackson
So far, the 1st two have been a dissapointment.

His career was really funny. The guy had near all-star-level talent, but he bounced around the league like a journeyman. Yet, everyone says he is a good lockerroom guy. Remember when dallas had Jackson, Kidd, and Mashburn. Now that was a team with potential.

Actually that's "gotta catch 'em all." Misquoting that undermines the game's great legacy.

I knew that, but I thought collect sounded better.

Anyway, Pokemon = great?

Oh, there wasn't an ounce of seriousness in that statement.

On a related note, which Pokemon did Hitler hate the most?

we need someone that can spot up and hit an outside shot.

He doesn't have to be swift of foot.

Steph/Steve
Q/Jimmy

I like that a lot better than

Steph/Nate
Q/Steve

Whoever we get, his greatest impact will probably be on the practice floor. Marbury has never been a heavy scrimmager -let alone with sore knees and shoe toe; Francis is on limited duty; Crawford is done, who knows where Q is at and he's been playing SF. Mardy and Nate are our only healthy guards. I don't think we can even make two opposing scrimmage units at this point.

we should get holfresh to get out of the 5 Burroughs and head to Westchester practice facility. LOL, never going to live that line down.

If he can defend and prevent average players from having career nights on us then I am for it.

From the Dougherty Blog:

As for the Knicks’ interest in Jimmy Jackson, move on.

“Zero,” Thomas said. “I like our team, I like our players. We’re not looking to bring anybody in. We’ll play and win with what we have.”
