Its against the rules to have player/coaches today but who today has the respect and knowledge of the game to do both? Honestly I can't think of anybody.

Who were the player/coaches back in the day? I know Dave debuchere did it in Detroit and bill Russell. Who else?

I think Derek Fisher could do it.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

steve nash practically is a coach, they rarely run any actual plays, he just sees things happen and creates all the offense impromptu. i saw some thing on that amhad rashad show about inside the suns practice. d'antoni literally gives him the ball and tells him to make stuff happen. you have to see the game very well, make good decisions in short amounts of time to do that, I think nash would be a good coach
^precocious neophyte.

I'll throw some names out there:

Kidd, Garnett, Chris Paul in time, Nash, Ray Allen, Alonzo, Snow, Duncan has the respect, not sure he's got the disposition.

On this team it would be Q.

Lenny Wilkens did it in Seattle.

I was thinking Malik for this team.

Good call on Malik. I could see him being a good coach.

I thought Nash initially but a lot of what he does is instinctive. Not something he can teach.

Tony Parker. As much as I don't really like the guy, and this is probably why, I think he has that mentality/ability to lead both on and off the wood. The guy really gets Duncan involved in distracting other players away' from him. Thats why he's able to be so aggresive. Only problem is he seems to try to do too much and gets caught sometimes, but if he were to balance that out, he'd be a good candidate.
I'll never trust this' team again.

i think a guy needs to be able to keep his head about him while he's playing to be a good player/head coach... he can't get too wound up during the course of the game because he needs to make good coaching decisions... but he also can't be so laid back that you hardly know he's there... here's some guys i think would do a good job:

Jason Kidd
Steve Nash
Brevin Knight
Darryl Armstrong
Gary Payton
Eric Snow
Ray Allen
Matt Harpring
Shane Battier
Brad Miller
Tony Parker
Bobby Jackson
