It's a good draft but we don't have good positioning.

My guess is we pick 18-21? and if so if he is there Im picking Morris Almond---this guy is BY FAR the best NBA ready shooter in the draft--kind of unheralded like kelvin martin--secondary choices Acie Law Marcus Williams or Jared Dudley

also--Im willing to buy one of pheonix picks--i think 24? and draft Sean Williams C from Boston College there is some risk but a high reward and we need a shotblocker like this BADLY

Briggs, love Almond, he's a lights out shooter, dont like Dudley very much at all, he seems aloof to me every time I watch him. Acie Law is a nice PG, but I see him as more of a combo guard in the pros and unless we trade some of our glut in the backcourt I'd shy away from him. Almond is the guy this team needs BIG TIME.

Jeff Green would be an absolute dream but I fear he will be picked in the late lotto which takes us out of the equation.

Dudley is just a darn good tough basketball player. He's not my first pick because we need a guy who can shoot with a MUCH higher shooting % than we have had since H20. I still think we can successfully move Crawford to 1 as we start to ween off Marbury for many reasons. The way for EC to get his FGA's up is finding guys who can shoot it @45%+ and this kid can. Also, Im willing to take a risk On Sean Williams --Pheonix has pawned off many of their picks and we DESPERATELY need an athletic shot blocker--even if it s for 15-18 minutes. You could put Williams into the role that Jerome James has---JJ is going to be worth nothing with another year off--so a player who can be a deterrant is essential. Williams is VERY athletic for his size--has very high potential if he can control his actions.

Sean Williams has been discussed on this forum several times by myself & some others... he'd be a great pick in the 20's for whatever team takes him there... the Knicks need a shotblocker in the worst way possible... we can nab ourselves a shooter w/the MLE if need be... i'm sure there will be some available... no rookie G's are getting any extended play as long as Marbury, Q Rich & Jamal are on this roster.

It's possible that we could use Frye to get a pro shooter--I don't think this team is spending the MLE. It's very easy to see we need guys who can shoot the ball at a higher %--of all the guys you named--no one can shoot with consistency and we need to try to find that. Were NOT winning an NBA championship anytime soon, so collecting qulaity young CHEAP picks who can potentially play right away is the best way to go. I agree with you on Williams but ONLY if I can acquire one of those Pheonix picks. He comes with risk.

i have zero problem trading Frye if we can get a veteran shooter who's still relatively in his prime & doesn't carry a heinous contract like Ray Allen... or if we can trade Frye to get a shotblocker, then we can use the pick to take a shooter too... the problem is Frye's not good enough in either category to be much of a help to this team, & he's not a rebounder, defender or passer either, so if he's not taking those midrange jumpers, he adds nothing else... at least Curry is drawing double teams down low & scoring at a high %... that's something we will need going forward... unless Channing develops a consistent 3 pointer to stretch defenses, his purpose on this team is pretty much non-existent.

Adam Haluska
Iowa
Birthday:11/16/1983
NBA Postion:Shooting Guard
Class:Senior
Ht:6-5Wt:210
College Team:Iowa

Strengths: An excellent jump shooter with good overall scoring ability … Can create shots for himself off the dribble, and is equally effective off the catch and shoot … Really understands the offensive end of the game and is crafty getting shots off … Solid decision maker with a good shot selection plus decent vision and passing ability … Moves well without the ball, running off screens … Very unselfish player, always looking to set up teammates for shots … Shows a willingness to go inside and grab rebounds (4.7 rebs per game in the Big 10 is impressive from the wing position) … Plays a very controlled game, at times almost too controlled … A solid defender on the college level, doesn’t gamble too often … An excellent free throw shooter (85%) and gets a fair amount of trips to the line (3.9 per game) … Durable player (has never missed a game in college)

Weaknesses: A stand out track star in high school who shows off his excellent athletic ability in spurts (needs to be more assertive) … His agility is good, but his aggressiveness going to the basket is limited some by his lack of physical strength … Did not show significant improvement from his sophomore to junior seasons, his outside shooting numbers actually dropped (from 39% to 35%) … At times he appears reluctant to take over … More than a year older than the average Senior after sitting out two seasons (including his transfer year from Iowa St.)

Notes: Haluska will be called upon to take over a much bigger part of the scoring load after averaging 13.9 ppg as a junior. 2006-07 is his year to shine with the departure of Greg Brunner (14.1 ppg) and Jeff Horner (13.6 ppg). The pressure will be on as opposing teams will surely focus their defensive strategies around stopping him
Aran Smith - 10/3/2006

This guy is the best overall SG that will be available in the late 1st and early 2nd rds. We can easily get him with our 2nd rd pick.

I think the two players I highlighted are formulated for what we need. Obviously you don't want to draft on need for the most part--but if we are going to base this franchise on Eddy Curry

A. You need higher % shooters so teams don't sag on EC

B. You really need a shot blocker because we are NOT going to get that from Frye or Lee. Most teams pretty much have a rotation of 4 bigs--so Curry Lee Frye with Williams balances out the frontcourt better.

i think Frye's got the shooting touch to be able to knock down 3's, he just needs the reps... he'll never be a good shotblocker, rebounder or defender, but i think he can become a good 3 pt shooter... the thing is, we have D Lee at the 4 & Curry at the 5, so we need a more athletic 3 who can knock down 3's to balance things out... Q Rich's body is breaking down... if Balkman could work on his shooting & develop a more consistent 3 pointer, it would do wonders for this team... forget about Jefferies, he's completely useless.

IMO jeffries is the victim of IT's hype and contract-giving.

he's had games where he's been in the right place at the right time, on offense and defense, contesting shots well, hustling. he can recognize when he's being doubled off of and finds some space. he's limited by his lack of touch with the ball on his shooting, inside and out. in short, he's got a brain and is tall, but has very poor skills.

i personally will give him the Q treatment and see if he can step up next season. hopefully he spends most of the summer playing HORSE with renaldo mardy and lee. and can come back and give us a good 20 mpg off the bench at the forward spots and block out the criticism.

Love Almond, but if Marcus Williams falls, you have to take him. Williams has lotto talent but Arizona's play as fallin' off of late as as his stock.

Sean Williams should be there with our second round pick (according to NBAdraft.net we're picking 40th....do we still have our second round pick?)

Heres a few guys I love to see fall to us:

Thaddeous Young Sf (skilled lefty who fills a need a Sf. May be gone by the time we pick)
Jeff Green Sf (might be gone by the time we pick)
Acie Law (probably gone)
Marcus Williams sf(if he is there, cant pass over Marcus Williams twice)
Morris Almond (my second choice if Williams is gone)
Dequan Cook

"Man, who knows with this team." Aguirre.
