Carter To Nets: I Want To Stay
25th February, 2007 - 4:28 am
New York Daily News -
Vince Carter has been rumored to be heading anywhere from Orlando to Charlotte to even right across the river. But after scoring 26 points in a win over the Kings on Friday,

Carter revealed for the first time - at least publicly - what his true feelings may be. Though he has the ability to opt out of the final year of his contract once the season is over, Carter made it known that he'd like to stay with the Nets.

Speaking on the YES Network postgame show, Carter was told that team president Rod Thorn had earlier said, "We'd obviously like to sign him."

Carter responded by saying, "Hey, that sounds good to me. We're going to try to work it out. Hopefully I can be a Net for years to come."

Only a few days ago, it seemed the Nets were prepared to trade Carter. There has been much speculation that he'd like to play for Orlando, just over an hour away from his hometown of Daytona Beach. But the chances of that happening seem slim now that Magic general manager Otis Smith has bashed Carter's game, telling a Florida paper that he was reluctant to trade 21-year-old Darko Milicic for the 30-year-old Carter.

"I'm not going to take a step back and fall for what I call fool's gold," Smith said. "It shines and it glitters, but it just doesn't stick or pass the test." [READ]

It could be after the fact damage control by Otis Smith as well.

I was thinking along the same lines Rich. Maybe Otis Smith's is playing a game so he can get VC after the season and give up NOTHING for him.

Which is the other big negative of Isiah's tenure. As I have said, he has added two very nice pieces in Curry and Lee, but he has done so very inefficiently, and equally as bad, he has given cap flexibility to two of his main competitors, Toronto and Orlando, although Larry may have been the reason the Francis trade was made.

No doubt Rich. It's a double-edged sword trading big contracts within your own division and we're just starting to see now just how sharp those blades are. I'm not going to get into how Isiah has gone about acquiring players because that will start a whole new argument in itself but let's just say I would agree 100% with you.

Orlando aren't trying to win now, but they do have a dominant center.

So many young teams think they can get by with no go to guy and make noise in the playoffs and that's sad.

Grant Hill is done, they need a VC to take them to another level.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

yea, the problem is that vince as the main man will not get it done, but add him to a Howard and nelson and you may have something.

Otis Smith still holds a (deserved) grudge about T-Mac I see.

actually I think Orlando would have been a good fit for Carter, Orlando plays good defense but is the last in the league in ppg I think, or one of the last, and they lack a real perimeter scorer and a go-to guy in crunch time, so far that guy has been Jameer Nelson.

on the other hand regarding the rumors of Carter coming to NY, I don't think he would have helped us because backcourt scoring isn't really our main problem
^precocious neophyte.

how is vince fool's gold when he carried a craptors team past ny twice?
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Once. The Knicks, swept the Raptors the first time and then the second time, Carter and the Raptors took the Knicks in 5. That was the very last year of their 15 year playoff run.

Wasn't that the series in which Camby was affected by the assault on his sister?

Yea that was the series Vincent Lamar Carter would have done MSG right.

In the summer of 2005, before the Raptors dealt Vince Carter to the Nets, Carter caused a commotion by telling his friends he would like to be traded to the Knicks.

Zeke coveted Jamal Crawford so much that instead of us fleecing toronto, NJ did.

The big apple had a chance to be just that with a franchise player V.C

Hate has blinded the minds of newyorkers viewing Vince Carter as less than jamal crawford 2 yrs ago.

There would have been as much buzz as if Bernard King was playing there.
