Knicks-Nets Trade Talks Go Nowhere. New York Post. 02-22-07.

The Knicks tried to get in on the Jason Kidd-Vince Carter sweepstakes, multiple sources confirmed last night.

It's not happening, however, especially with what was being offered to the Nets - which essentially was a young potential star in Channing Frye plus a collection of bad contracts.

One source gave the Knicks credit in their quest for Kidd but said the offered little to interest the Nets. New Jersey's most-bitter rivals were believed to have offered Frye ($2.3 million) and Steve Francis ($15 million this year, $16 million next) as the starting points in an attempt to land Kidd ($18 million this season). There may have been other minor players involved.

For Carter, the discussions lasted a little longer. There were some players on the Knicks' roster that attracted the Nets but were ones Isiah Thomas was not about to part with. Multiple sources said the teams engaged in discussions on Tuesday and again on Wednesday.

The Knicks' package for Carter, who can opt out of his deal at season's end, also centered around Frye, the young forward that the Nets coveted in the 2005 draft. The Knicks' offer was also believed to have included Jerome James ($5.4 million this season) and Malik Rose ($7.5 million this season) and one other player, perhaps Kelvin Cato or rookie Renaldo Balkman.

"There was interest on both sides and there were conversations, but what was offered simply didn't appeal to the Nets," a league executive said.

Thorn is tough to deal with. He only wants to make a deal if he is ripping the other team off. I hope no one deals with the Nets and they are stuck with Jkidd and his injuries.

I don't believe Isiah inquired about kid. He may not be a great Gm, but I think this is a garbage rumor..

Don't be so sure. This is Isiah. He loves his guards. The Knicks can never have too many guards. Kidd on the Knicks frees up Marbury to play SG, Nate to play SF, Craw to play PF and Mardy Collins to play center.
