Than doesnt that mean that we have to tank next season? right now this team is dependant on the services of the rapidly aging marbury, francis, and qrich (kind of young but has chronic back problems) to remain competitive. but if we're rebuilding than that means those players are only here now to make the knicks better to watch during there period of sucking, and wont be on this team the team has progressed enough to win a championship. if thats the case than dont we have to get a high pick on the lottery pick in the upcoming drafts to build this team from lottery team (which is what we are without those players i mentioned) to championship contender? Now of course I realize that our young players will get better with every year, but that alone shouldn't be enough, I've never heard of a case in all of nba history where it was.

and if I'm wrong and we don't have to tank next season in order to be rebuilding, than how do we go from being a 38 win team with marbs/fancis/qrich, to being a 55 win team without them? doesnt that seem like far to great a step to take using only growth from within, MLE signings, low draft picks, and shaping the roster better?

You are probably right but we do not have assets to get picks and we do not have pick this year even if we will go down.
This team is doomed untill the conracts will start expiring.
Looks like even Dolan recognized this and proibited new trades

^well the knicks can get under the cap in the summer of 2010 IF and only if they actually try to do so. but if isiah contines signing a bust to the MLE every year like he has been than it wont happen. but Isiah never said anything to suggest that he has changed his mind from when he said that fans dont pay to see capspace.

buying picks could help but I dont know how much, the knicks will probably need a high pick to get over the post marbury hump, not just a couple of average ones.
