Despite the turnovers the Knicks found a way to win.

Is that a positive sign from a work in progress?

I say yes

"Night and day," Thomas said of the rousing atmosphere at the Garden, where the club improved to 14-13 this season. "If this were the first week of the season, we'd probably get booed off the floor.

"We'd probably play extremely tight."

"We always take two steps forward and a step backward," said Jamal Crawford, who poured in 20 points. "But this shows we have room for growth, and [tonight] will be a good game for us."

Defense

"It also was significant because the Knicks won despite often playing with an All-Star break hangover, committing 22 turnovers that Orlando turned into 31 points and 20 offensive rebounds that led to 21 Magic points."

That's 52 points on mistakes, which meant their defense didn't yield much otherwise....

"The sign of a team that's getting better like we are is that we didn't play our best ball," (Lee) said, "but we found a way to still get the victory."

Evident progress can only be judged by one thing, and that's wins.

You can turn the ball over 30 times a game, but if its resulting in wins, does it REALYYYYYYY matter ?

I tended to think the turnovers were a way of finding a way to make the game closer than it should have been. They were sloppy down the stretch. Once they went up 10 they had Orlando on the ropes and should've found a way to win by 12-14 (especially considering how cold Atlanta went for the next 2:30 or so), but instead they played lax and let Orlando back in the game. That's how they've found a way to lose this year.

Too often they don't make the crisp pass or they aren't protecting the ball from the defender properly. It's a problem that too many of our players have. We don't have a team full of great ball handlers. Still it's something they need to be more concious of. They jump to pass. They tend to telegraph passes and bounce passes they should lob or lob passes they should bounce. They don't seem to recognize what the right pass is. Jamal had a break and only Jameer in front of him and he decides to make a stupid pass back to Steph who was way behind him at that point and so he had to turn his body back to try and make an awkward pass. Things like that happen too often.

There were three turnovers down the stretch. Marbury, Crawford and Lee.

Let's hope they can protect the ball better in Philly.

No I'm not saying they turned it over on purpose. I'm saying "they didn't find a way to win" last night. What they did was almost squander a sure victory with the their lax (or "loose," short hand for lackadaisical, use a dictionary rather than pretending you don't know) play.

VDesai - hold up, the newspapers sez the Knicks won the game. Despite 22 turnovers no less.

you have information to the contrary?

I don't know why I talk to you Isiah. I already said it in my first post, which you evidently didn't understand. The Knicks had a 10 point lead with 5 minutes to go last night and Orlando didn't make a field goal for the 2:30 to follow. Yet the Knicks still allowed Orlando to get the lead down to 3 points. This is what happened in the game that I watched and saw the Knicks win (who needs a newspaper), despite the FACT that they played so loose down the stretch that they almost let it slip away. That's not finding away to win, that's creatively squandering a comfortable lead even when the opposition is playing poorly.

Squandering a lead is one thing.

Standing together and refusing to lose the GAME is another.

Knicks lose. I'm unhappy. Gotta find stuff to kvetch over.

Knicks win. I'm happy. It ain't that deep.

Marbury > Nelson
Crawford > whos is their sg
Q > Turk
James << Howard
Curry > Darko

NY Bench > Orlando Bench

Home Court >>

So whats the big deal here, great win we needed to have it and we got it, but lets not act like we did something special last night, if Im leaving the garden on friday after a three game win streak, we can start a thread about that, but there is reason to be nervous about the next two, lets take care of business and jump orlando

MS - who said anything about something "special"?

There is no big deal other than the "big deal" you are attempting to make it.
