New jersey trading Vince Carter to Orlando.

Sheesh.

Real GM reports that Orlando hasn't even called about Vince. Dude grant hill is an expiring deal. Orlando needs a go to guy. New jersey needs some cap space and maybe some more youth.

What the hell is the hold up?

I don't want this to happen because the knicks need Orlando to burn so they can move up....still, what kinda retard would not make this move if you were either team?

Stupid ass nba GM's.

Vince would fit that team perfectly. They look lost on offense often and don't have a go to scorer. They were smart enough though to get a big defensive interior presence first (Howard) before worrying about getting big time scorers. You can get wing players who put up points much more easily than defensive monsters down low. Now they're in a good position to make a trade that significantly helps them.

Darko & Grant Hill to NJ for Vince would be a great deal for both teams... i really hope NJ stands pat.

I'm not sure that's enough for NJ to get out of the deal. They gave up more than that just to get Vince (and people thought they had given up very little). I think they can get more.

There's no way in Hell Thorne takes a washed up Hill for a Vince.

They got 3 players that they didn't use (Mourning, Aaron and Eric Williams) and 2 mid first rounders (Joey Graham and I'm not sure what happened to the other pikc).

Hill/Darko wouldn't be a bad haul for now.

Hill's an expiring contract & Darko looks to be showing some of the promise he once was thought of as having... he'd be a nice bigman to put next to Krstic for them... add in Marcus Williams & RJ & they'd have a solid young core & be in good position to make some impact free agent signings next season.

Thorn makes out like a genius. Hill probably would never play a game for New Jersey. Hill would get waived in time for him to sign with a contender.

TMS my clone already said the rest!

Oh gosh I hope this trade doesn't happen!

bottomline is NJ is going to lose Vince Carter in the offseason anyway... at least, his contract will qualify to come off the books when he opts out... whether they re-sign him or not is another story, but i'm thinking Orlando will be where he signs... NJ would do well to trade J Kidd & unload his contract too while they're at it... that would leave them in a great position cap wise going into the offseason.

an alternative option would be this:

NJ could trade Kidd to ORL for Darko, Hill & a 1st round pick now, & let Vince's contract come off the books when he opts out at the end of the season... ORL would then get both those guys for the paltry price of an expiring contract, Darko & a 1st round pick, & NJ would be well below the cap & be able to make some good offers for FA's they want to target along w/re-signing Darko, who also turns FA at the end of the season.

either way, the Nets will stand to benefit nicely from any trade of JKidd or Vince if they play their cards right.

If Orlando's GM is any good I think he passes on the deal. Its a short term move with too much risk. If it happens the Magic make playoffs and do ok. Probably not going to make it to the finals with just that addition. Vince could opt out and they lose him.

Its in their best interest to be patient and wait. If Vince wants to play in Orlando, let him opt out and sign in the offseason. They have the cap space for it. Grant expires, they keep any assets they would have had to throw in to make the trade happen.

Brilliant!

Still, Carter wants to play in Orlando. I believe he is from there, could be wrong.

Anyway, Orlando could do it and then sign an extention right away right?

Yeah...they could extend him, but why throw away someone (Darko) or a pick to do it?

Good post Andrew. I think theres way too much risk involved with Orlando getting Vince. Vince is already 30 and is going to be looking for a 5 year deal, it would be stupid for Orlando to sign someone his age to that kind of deal when they are going to be coming up on a ton of capspace. Orlando isn't winning a championship this year with Vince so they should stand pat and see what they can do in the offseason.

so how about trading for J Kidd instead? match up Kidd w/D Howard & they're an instant contender in the East... they can sign a MLE scorer in the offseason... i think that would help out that franchise alot.

Darko is going to be a good player, I would love to sign him with our mid-level and play him 25 minutes a game behind curry

that's something i would gladly sign up for... he'd be a nice compliment to Curry's game... i'd be OK w/starting Darko too... maybe play D Lee as a SF next year & have him work on that jumpshot & getting a little leaner in the offseason... you could have a nice big frontcourt to pose good matchups in our favor
