It’s been quiet around here for a reason.

With two days to go before the NBA trade deadline, the Knicks are not exactly generating rumors. And that’s because Isiah Thomas wants to give this group room to grow.

Call it a departure.

“The first couple of years we needed to make some moves,” said Thomas, who’s completed a deal in front of the deadline each of the last three seasons. “We needed to improve. That was part of the job in terms of rebuilding, but I like where we are now. Not only do we have a good group for the present, but we have a good group for the future also.”

So what are the chances that something will get done by 3 p.m. on Thursday.

“That’d be zero,” Thomas said.

We still don’t know whether he is completely free to make a deal.

Thomas continues to deny the existence of any restrictions on player movement, but I can’t help but wonder if Knicks owner James Dolan wants to keep the roster intact to simplify the definition of evident progress.

Either way, the players are happy.

“It does make you feel good,” Channing Frye said after hearing the odds Thomas came up with. “But this is a business, so it might be .0009 or something like that.”

Shoot-around was briefly interrupted this morning when melting ice on the metal roof slid to the ground, resulting in a frightening rumbling noise. All of the players stopped shooting free throws immediately and looked up.

David Lee and Knicks assistant Mark Aguirre bolted for the locker room doorway. Steve Francis and Jamal Crawford started hustling to the other side of the gym.

“I thought it was a jet,” Aguirre said.

When everybody realized what happened, they all had a good laugh.

“I didn’t know what it was, so I was trying to see what was getting ready to fall and figure out which way I was going to run,” Thomas said. “You gotta see where it’s coming from before you start running.”

So obviously this team is set for the future.

Well since it appears strongly they won't make the playoffs then what happens to the team afterwards?

Channing took out his calculator for that question

Thomas said. “You gotta see where it’s coming from before you start running.”

If it will come from Dolan he better run...

Beautiful...A good move for future moves as well...We showed we are not desperate to make a move or make a splash, starphuck if you will...We won't be bent over because we are desperate as in the past...i.e. the Francis/Ariza trade...We have young players and we need to see how they develop...

This team is perfect. I wouldn't touch a thing. This group has "Championship" written all over it. All they need is time together.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

I'd rather makeout with Isiah like Barkley and Bavetta.
