What may be surprising was how he lambasted Utah coach Jerry Sloan in his new book. According to the Salt Lake City Tribune, Amaechi pulled no punches, spending more ink to attack Sloan than he did his abusive father. Here are some excerpts:

... He was pale and withered, a body gradually losing the war it had waged against the world. Yet he had the arrogance of an aging gunslinger who'd survived so many bullets that no one dared challenge him. ...

... Jerry raged against players whom he thought didn't play hard enough, claiming they were undermining coaches across the league. If we lost two or three in a row, he would stride into practice yelling, 'You (expletives) are trying to get me fired. I'm not losing my job because you guys aren't hustling.'

During one of these job-insecurity diatribes, Karl (Malone) looked at me and smirked, 'If only we were so lucky.' Then he went back to the posture he'd long ago adopted: working diligently on his game while pretending Jerry didn't exist." ...

I've had enough of John Amaechi. The guy comes out of the closest because he's selling a book and he wasnt even a good player. Your story sucks Amaechi, go back into the closest you came out of.

Don't care about what a journeyman, who only lasted a few years in the league, has to say. And I certainly don't care about his sexuality.

What next? The Ken "The Animal" Bannister Story? Actually I'd be interested in that.

not sure why the stuff he has to say is insignificant... what does the fact that he's coming out of the closet or that he was a journeyman player have to do w/the validity or nonvalidity of his comments? i actually never knew Malone had those types of feelings for Sloan.

I actually always though Amaechi was highly regarded by his teams, as a nice defensive presence. I mean, nothing special, but a good team player to have.

With that being said, who cares? Charles Barkely and Kenny Smith say there are a lot more gay players in the league, than people think, and it doesn't really affect teams.

You still don't. That's why it's insignificant.

The guys trying to sell a book, we've already seen that he'll come out of the closet to try and sell the book, add in a big player not liking his coach and you get controversy. Controversy sells books.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.
