Francis
Frye
Nate

for

Damon Stoudamire
Mike Miller
Stromile Swift
MEM's 2nd round pick

========

What this does for MEM:

- this gives MEM a PG who brings a little more star quality
- 1 year of cap relief because Miller's contract goes 1 more year than Francis' contract
- they also gain 2 young players to add to their core for their rebuilding efforts
- makes a move to trade Gasol a little more palateable if they have a bigman to develop in his place... if they can trade Gasol to the Sonics for a package like Rashard Lewis & Wilcox, that would give them a nice young core that could contend next season IMO:

C - Frye
PF - Wilcox
SF - Lewis
SG - Gay
PG - Francis
6 - Warrick
7 - Lowry
8 - Nate

What this does for NY:

- fills the need for some perimeter shooters that will make teams pay for doubling on Curry downlow (Miller & Damon)
- Knicks get a smart backup PG who Isiah already has an affinity for & gets rid of the last remaining reference to Larry Brown's tenure in Francis
- a shotblocking presence off the bench in Swift
- some good talent available to be had w/MEM's 2nd round pick (makes taking a flyer on a shotblocking stud like Sean Williams out of BC a lot easier since you wouldn't have to waste a 1st rounder on him)

*potential roster for 2008:

C - Curry / CHI's 1st rd pick / Swift
PF - Lee / Jefferies / Williams
SF - Miller / Balkman
SG - Q Rich / Crawford
PG - Marbury / Stoudamire
IA - Malik / Collins / Turd

I think it's a good trade. I like Mike Miller, he's a great shooter and he's a consistent shooter, this team needs a consistent shooter from the outside so badly. I've never liked Stro Swift, he's a huge underachiever, but his contract isn't a big one and it only runs 2 more years so whatever. I think the huge part of this deal would obviously getting rid of Francis salary, as well as getting back a very solid backup PG in Stoudamire, which would fill a HUGE need for the Knicks, as well as Stephon at this point in this career.

Good trades TMS.

we actually would be taking on 1 more year of cap in the deal because both Damon & Swift's contracts come off the books the same year as Francis & Miller's runs 1 more.

it's more of a trade to fill some needs for the Knicks, & to give MEM a couple more young players for their franchise rebuild.

the actual selling point for me would be that 2nd rounder from MEM to tell u the truth... it would be like getting another late 1st round pick in essence.

Any deal involving Mike Miller would have to include a clause in his contract that would force him to abandon any headgear that might be worn by a teenage girl.

there's not a chance in hell we could get Gasol for a package of Francis, Frye & Nate

We could follow that up with a Jared Jeffries for KG trade. Then we're gold.

what i like about your idea is that we get 3 smaller tradeable players in exchange for Francis' monster deal who all would fill a role in the time they're on the roster... Nate has very little value at this point, so i have no problem throwing him into the deal... i'd much rather have that 2nd round pick at this point... & Frye could realize his value more if he were playing on another team IMO... we have our PF in D Lee.

You can get more for Frye. I mean there was a point when LA wanted Frye for Odom.

We could get Swift for cheap by himself. I like Swift cause he can play both PF and C and that's exactly what we need.

Don't really need Stoudamire and theres not enough minutes to play Q, Craw, Marbs AND Stoudemire at the G positions.

Miller is whatever, would rather just have Q play SF...

but good trade proposal otherwise.

I like this trade all around. but would Memphis mind adding a player of Francis' caliber? it would make it harder for them to tank.
