SONIC BUST: Ray Allen's name continues to be linked to the Knicks, but New York and Seattle haven't had talks about Allen and the Sonics have no plans to trade one of the premier shooters in the game.

"To read that stuff about us looking to move Ray is laughable," said Sonics GM Rick Sund. "We've had a disappointing season, but we've had big injuries to guys like Rashard Lewis and Ray. Nobody's called me about Ray because he's not available."

For Sund to pick up his phone to discuss a deal, he wants a hefty price for Allen, seventh in the NBA in scoring at 26.9 ppg entering last night. That would entail a package including a great young player, expiring contracts and draft picks. The Knicks don't have the assets.

"Nobody likes their talent," one Eastern Confernce GM said. "The problem for the Knicks is that they don't have expiring contracts to offer. They got rid of Jalen Rose, so that didn't help their cause."

I think this is a great thing for us, Allen would be a patch up job.. which is what we always do.. but it wouldent help in the long run

ps this is from the daily news... go to realgm.com if u want the link im too lazy :)

Thank god Ray Allen is a Mr. Glass man he's constantly injured and usually goes missing during important games. The last clutch game he had was in college during the Big East Conference game.

Jesus Shuttlesworth is available. The Sonics are looking to cut payroll. They have $200 million secured to build the new arena. But they still need another $75 million from the city government for infrastructure costs.

So there is a lot of chatter from people close to the Sonics that they will look to slash payroll by the trading deadline.

However, the Knicks should not go after Ray-Ray. The Knicks should surround themselves with players who will be at their best when Eddy, D Lee and Frye are all entering their prime.
Allen doesn't fit the bill - not worth the cost to the Knicks

Well let him keep ray Allen. Milk him for what hrs worth then beg someone to take him in 2 years. These GMs are something else.

I agree. If they are not trying to trade Allen, they are idiots. That team is not going anywhere anytime soon and as long as Allen is there, they will have no cap flexibility, especially if they plan to resign Lewis. They should trade Allen now while he is still young enough to entice another team to pull the trigger on a good deal.

He's better than Allan Houston.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Funny thing is - this current edition of the Knicks would love to have a player like Houston (sans the $100 million contact)

Houston would be the perfect peremiter compliment to Eddy Curry in the post. The threat of a Houston "3" would make teams hesitant to run at Eddy with double and triple teams.

if a spot up shooter is all u need, u can sign 1 from the D-leagues... i'm sure there are a some Matt Carroll clones floating around out there if you look around hard enough.

Allan Houston & Ray Allen are alot more than just spot up shooters... these guys are bonafide allstars who can create their own shot & score on just about anyone who's guarding them... the contract that Ray Allen is signed to would worsen our already horrible cap situation, so unless adding him would result in a chance to make the Finals, would it be worth giving up the amount of talent it would take to get him? SEA can laugh all they want & downgrade the level of talent the Knicks have, but the joke will be on them when they're stuck w/Ray's $18 million dollar contract in 2009 when he's on the decline & they're looking to rebuild w/younger talent.

Again thats why im happy we don't have Jalen Rose to offer. Either force teams to look at Marbury, Francis, Crawford, Q, M.Rose, JJskinny or we just don't deal. With J.Rose the only thing teams want is to unload huge contracts on us.

Right now we should be in the positon to just want to draft. And if we can find deals where we can shorten salary do it.

How about this deal that has nothing to do with this thread, but since it seems dead anyway imma throw it in here.

Knicks trade Francis, Frye, Nate
Memphis trades Mike Miller, Swift, Stoudmire

I think Memphis looks at it because Francis has a shorter deal than Miller though he makes 7.5mil more for the season. But it all evens out in the fact that Frye & Nate combine for 12mil before there qualifying yrs with there contracts, while Swift & Stoud combine for 30mil. All together Knicks would be taking back 60mil. While Memphis would also be taking back 60mil. Mike Miller right now is a better player than Francis. So it would come down to the potential they feel Frye has over Swift, And the potential Nate has over Stoud. So this deal shortens the length of a contract, gets them 2 players with more potential than the players they already have.

newyork, if Francis comes back & proves he can be effective, then i can see that deal maybe interesting the Griz... it would probably be a good trade to make to fill some holes on this roster for the Knicks.

we'd be getting a shooter in Miller, a shotblocker in Swift, & a backup PG for Steph that Isiah drafted back in TOR.

C - Curry / Turd
PF - Lee / Jefferies / Swift
SF - Miller / Balkman
SG - Q Rich / Crawford
PG - Marbury / Damon / Collins
IA - Cato / Malik

not great, but a little more balance & Lee would be seeing more minutes.

Newyork, I like that trade.

We all love Ray, and there's no way you can't, but with his contract and injury problems, there's just no way you can trade for him, without hurting the franchise long term.
