Milos Vujanic? Lets think about it. Maybe Milos could join the Knicks sooner than expected.

Lets say Milos is going to get a similar contract as Marko Jaric of the Clips. Thats $6M over 3 years, or about 2M a season. Since Doleac is signed this year with the 1M exception, and that can't be used 2 years in a row, for Milos to be signed he would have to accept the NBA minimum (not likely), or part of the 4.5M exception.

If the knicks do use part of the 4.5 for Milos, that really hurts their chances of adding a decent free agent for the 03-04 season...one that would want the full exception (Nesterovich from the T-Wolves?)

What if the Knicks are planning on signing Milos this year after he completes his Euroleague play, using part this years 4.5 exception and having next years available for a FA signing? His team is sucking, so he wouldn't play into the playyoffs. Does anyone know when the Euroleague regular season ends? Is this even allowed (the late signing) under the NBA rules?

Signing Doleac to 1.4 ended up being bad for us. 2mil would have been better. If the 1.4 wasnt used we could have used it for Milos next year for 1 year and then gave him a another contract after that and still had room for a good free agent.

I think falcindor meant to say that we should have signed Doleac part of the 4.5M excpetion in hindsight....not to pay him more.

The Euroleague regular season ends in two weeks and Partizan Belgrado is the worst team in his division so they cannot play into playoffs.
The problem is the Yugoslavian League. Euroleague isn´t a closed competition like NBA, you need a good position in the regional leagues like ACB (Spain) or LNB (France), HEBA (Greece)...In fact you can be in the Final Four one year and the next you don´t be able to play the Euroleague if you have a bad position in the regional league so I doubt that Partizan could play without MIlos for the next three months. In my view the problem is the money, you can do everything with Euros or Dollars in Serbia but the NBA...

not using the exception would be a mistake. Milos should get a 3 year deal with a team option for a 4th. This would ensure he stays a Knick, as after that contract runs out he would have Bird rights, meaning we could sign him over the cap because he's our player.

If we gave him a 2 year deal, when that contract ends we could lose him. He would not have Bird rights, so if another team offered him more than the exception, we would be unable to match and he could walk for nothing. GS is going through this with Gilbert Arenas. He is only a second year player so if somebody offered him say $6 mill a year, GS would be outta luck and lose him.
