I don't know if this was posted but mystery solved...
NBA First: Ex-Player Comes Out. Newsday. 02-07-07. By Ken Berger
John Amaechi, whose five-season NBA career ended when he was waived by the Knicks in 2004, has become the first NBA player to come out as gay, according to Outsports.com.
Amaechi was acquired by the Knicks with Moochie Norris from Houston for Clarence Weatherspoon in Isiah Thomas' first trade as team president Dec. 30, 2003. Amaechi, who played for Cleveland, Orlando and Utah, never played a game for the Knicks before his contract was bought out.
Outsports.com obtained an advance copy of Amaechi's book, "Man in the Middle," scheduled for release next Wednesday. He was scheduled to announce his homosexuality for the first time publicly in an ESPN show to air the day before.
But Amaechi's publicist began spreading the word at football agent Leigh Steinberg's annual Super Bowl party in Miami last weekend that "a retired NBA player" was preparing to come out.
Amaechi, 36, was raised in England, played at Penn State, and averaged 6.2 points and 2.6 rebounds in the NBA.
