Mark Messier, talking about James Dolan:

“You couldn’t ask for a better owner,” Messier was quoted as saying. “He’ll do anything in his power to create an environment that’s exactly what a player’s looking for: state-of-the-art facilities, willingness to spend money to try to win, the way the team is treated. There’s not a better place to play in the league, period.”


Messier might have a point that the players enjoy playing for Dolan. Face it: It's like getting Steinbrenner's money without getting all the grief. But it's obviously a much different view from the fan's vantage point.

You know messier is stating the obvious. A lot of people out there and on this very board trash dolan for no reason. The guy truly wants the Knicks and the Rangers to win. I think he cares about MSG and its "worlds most famous arena" tag. Yeah he is wealthy, but just like the captain said he will pay top dollar to try to make his teams win and keep people coming out to the concerts.

As far as the Knicks and rangers, they both have been handled similiar throughout the years. In hockey, I guess the cap is not as hard cuz it always seems like the rangers are always in the mix to getting some of the top talents in the league. It might not always mesh but their is a hunger from all around to win like a mofo. With the knicks, dolan has done the same with trying to get the big name guys that have sucseeded like Scott layden did in Utah. He tried to give the knicks a face with Magic but had to go with isiah, he tried to bring respect back with Lenny Wilkins, then sent isiah after Phil and Brown, settling for Brown which should have been a good thing.

Anyway, I don't think Dolan should be ridiculed so much. He might not be the brightest mofo, but I'm not gonna hate the guy. He is gonna make a profit regardless but he will take a loss and lose big in the attempt to make his teams win. Sooner or later things will get right. The rangers are getting pretty close and the Knicks are knocking on the door.
