By MARC BERMAN
February 4, 2007 -- ORLANDO - Isiah Thomas has made a bold decision and decided to start Jerome James for Channing Frye in a two-center look he plans to go with into the All-Star break.

The experiment began in last night's 94-86 victory over Orlando. Thomas said he wants James' "interior defense." That's likely to supplement Eddy Curry's lack of same.

Thomas also said he wants Frye off the bench to get him away from Curry and make him more of a post player. Frye responded with 18. James had four points, three rebounds

The Karate James and Curry project stay tune.

it makes sense against the Clippers for defensive purposes, with Brand to guard. it probably won't last too much longer than that., maybe in Utah as well.

I'd rather see DLee get the shot, but it's definitely goodto have Frye coming off the bench

why did it take Isiah 50 games to realize what I have been saying since last year?

Frye = center

Frye + Curry = sucks

Frye off the bench = good

Frye off bench as center = good

Great job Zeke

I don't remember the part about you asking for Jerome to start! Lee's min will probably be pushed down if JJ's getting consistent min. And we know JJ is usually awful even if he played well yesterday.

Frye is not a center in this league..Guys his size with his skills play poer forward..He does not provide the defensive presence for a guy his size to play center...

Frye is a PF/C.

He's a big man. Giving players positions is a mistake, just like saying Marbury is a PG.

The only "point guards" are pure ones, and those are rare, just like the only Centers are Shaq and Yao.

I'm not even sure I'd say Curry is a pure Center yet, although he's damn close.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

your right... its very unusual to see 6'11 250 pound guys playing center in the NBA

Oh wait.. when you say 'this league' your talking about the NBA right?

Just a few guys that at 6'11 245 Frye is just as big as in this league (National Basketball Association)

He's not Yao, Shaq

That's all I care about. We are on step closer to getting the right lineup on the floor since James will probably only play the first 5minutes and 13 minutes total all game. I would hope that instead of this pushing Balkman out ogf the lineup, it pushes JJ2 out.... or to limited minutes.

Battie - Plays power forward most nights, not a good option at center when when a guy name D. Howard mans the position...Does have the skills as Frye to play in and out...

Blount - Next to K Garnett the consumate PF, this 7 footer will be playing center..He is nto the deep threat that Frye could be but more of a banger, plays well on the interior..

Bogut - 7 footer who will probally move to PF when he has the skills to play inside out like Duncan...

Camby - Mans the position with shot blocking and rebounding..Skills that Frye has not shown on a night in and night out basis...

Cato - Banger, built to play tough on the inside

Chandler - 7 foot 1 inch....Shot blocker and rebounder...Center!!!

Collins - Tough interior player, sound on defense..7 footer..Center!!!

Dalembert - Good shot blocker and rebounder, not a good shooter..so not a good option at PF but better at Center

Elson - Tough defensively, not a great option offensively, 7 footer..Center!!!

Gadzurich - Doesn't have the range or offensive skills to play the Inside out game of a PF
Haywood - A 7 foot center with no outside game...

Steven Hunter Center, shot blocker..no outside game..

Krstic - a 7 footer who plays power forward next to Collins

Raef - Better I think at Power forward...Has he play the last decade?

Mihm - 7 footer..not a good player to compare to Frye

Brad Miller - should play power forward with his skills but what do you want if you were playing next to CWebb and is probably the biggest guy on the team???

Rasho - Please!!!!

Okur - plays like a PF but this guy name Boozer has the position

Zaza - On a bad team but should be playing PF...

Ratliff - Defends and rebounds...Center!!!

Nazr - Rebounds and plays the post..Not an in/out guy

Amare - Pure Power forward playing center in PHX offense and wasn't too happy about it either until they started winning...

Kurt Thomas - Power forward not a center, compares to Frye a little..Never happy about playing center..

Ben Wallace - Small center but makes up for the lack of size with heart, great defense and rebounding..

Lorenzen Wright - Not really an inside out player..

Duncan - plays power forward most nights with his inside out skills

Zo - Consummate center with his skills, defending and rebounding...Pure power game on the inside...Not known for stretching defenses

I really don't know why you think these guys compare to Frye, 90 percent don't...Most on your list don't have the skill set as Frye...Same hight give or take 2 inches but not the same game...I'm sure you were trying to make a point but I just don't know what???

Holfresh would write a 6 page essay to keep Frye in the starting lineup

It has nothing to do with in the starting lineup...I know the Lee faithful would like to think so but I'm pointing out to Fish that Frye is more suited for PF than center...I know the faithful just wants Frye banished and doesn't care where he plays, city included, my argument is not about starting...

He came off the bench and played great, a significant step up from any of his starts. I, like others, need to compliment Isiah for making the obvious move. First step in a long journey. I hope Channing can keep it up and build it up, I like him.

I have seen him have better games as a starter if that means anything...

This year? You may be right but, I'm having a tough time recalling any real stand out performances, similar to last night. You got me curious though. I'll look back at the boxes, maybe it will jog my memory...

Frye could have had better games than the one he had yesterday. There have been a few games that Frye started out hot only to be taken out of the game and to not return until after the halftime. Then only playing 5 minutes total after the halftime.

Game against Detroit Pistons where he hit a big on handed hook along the baseline at a big point in the game, then hit the game tying shot to go into overtime...But you might have missed that game right?

I can recall two games in the last 3 weeks where Frye was hot in the first half and benched in the second...Ill say so Lee can get his burn...I do remember Frye being about 12 pts 8 boards int he first and 11 pts and 7 I think...

I didn't miss that game, and yes that was dramatic and clutch and I cheered and cheered. But, that example is not proof of a consistant performace.

Last night he really pushed himself, he was motivated to try new moves. He gave up a twelve foot jumper to drive to the hoop, that is not typical Frye. I saw him box someone out on a missed second FT, it was awesome, again not typical Frye. He was tough under the boards...etc... and his shot was on.

I'll give you the excitement level of the Piston game was a truly great momement. But, I maintain, last night we saw some glimpses of what _may_ come.

My Fingers are crossed...like I said...I like the guy.
