Now that we are aware that Lee is being kept out of the SL to be the 6th man, deliberately by Zeke, what will happen when Curry is not selected to the All-Star team?

Zeke has MOTIVES:

1. Get Marbs and Francis back to All-Star status as a TANDEM. FAILURE. Steph had played very poorly until after the brawl up until the past two games or so due to injury. Francis was BANISHED!

2. Use an offense that features motion and cutting. AKA the QUICK. FAILURE. The quick offense disappeared as quickly as Jared Jeffries and Channing's minutes...largely due to the intense focus of pounding it inside to exploit our biggest scoring threat...EDDY CURRY.

3. Get Eddy in to the All-Star game. FAILURE. Eddy Curry's scoring, while prolific, has not elevated us. In fact, many times it has stalled our offense. His rebounding numbers alone are deplorable. His defense is horrific. His ability to pass out of the double team is catastrophic. We wont touch blocked shots...in many cases, the guards and Lee have won us games not Eddy.

If Eddy is not an All-Star...will Isiah move away from him sooner because his motive was not achieved? Last night, Zeke got in Eddy's grill about D. His lack of rebounding is frustrating the entire team. His inability to pass out the post stalls the team. Alot of team-related defensive lapses are created as a result of these inabilities (i.e. team cannot reset D quickly when Eddy cannot grab a board allowing the opponents to score more easily on second chance points; turnovers on O-fouls and strips do not help the team get back in trasition; inability to intimidate in the paint allows for baseline cutters or penetrators to get easy buckets).

So no All-Star bid for Curry...now that Isiah's plight is over, will Curry be on a shorter leash in terms of D and rebounding, to's etc? Meaning less PT, less offense running through him/less touches. Eddy has been rendered ineffective so many times but we keep going to him and we keep failing. Isiah's motive is to avoid failure at all costs...does Isiah start to minimize Eddy's role because the stats (points) don't really matter in terms of an All-Star appearance this year?

Last, while I am proud of David for the soph game and a possible 6th man award...in a way, its sort of sad. Isiah may get credit for this award for having the best bench player in the league, but he hurt his chances of winning games for the team as a result by not starting him. Funny- Lee has a better chance of becoming an All-Star in a few years than Eddy will ever have.

very interesting take. it's possible considering how isiah seems to change up his strategy many times.

i think he will keep going to eddy but as each game gets more and more important, his patience may wear thin.

Isiah is in a bind. Put there by his own mistakes, yes, but also by the Dolan ultimatum. What Dolan should have done is either fired Isiah after canning Larry, OR he should have given Isiah a one year extension so he wouldn't have to coach as if he's trying to save his GM job all year long. If isiah was fired. Then OK. And if we extended, then at least he would not be so desperate to get positive attention for his players.

This is a horrible bind, brought on Isiah by himself, and also by MSG. Dolan, in my belief, has privately always wanted to give Isiah an extension, but he has been forced to seem like the tough-guy owner who demands results in order to placate the fans who want him to get tougher.

None of this is working out.

Kam.. why do you continue to excuse Isiah because of the Dolan ultimatum? If it was true, and Isiah *had* to get the team into the playoffs, why does it justify him overspending for a bunch of guys who had never been there in the first place? I mean like ALL the guys he brought in had either never been to the playoffs or had no idea how they got there the one time they did make it.

A smart GM with the Dolan "mandate" would have gone out and overspent for Eddie Jones, Cliff Robinson, Kenny Thomas and Sam Cassell. I'm quite sure given the # of bad contracts and money taken back along with draft picks going out that any decent GM could have accomplished that. That team would play hard, be incredibly boring but play at least .500 ball and get us into the post season where we surely lose to a more talented team.

Anyway its a great original post by the queen. If you have been watching this year its all been about agendas, none of which have either worked or produced wins. No matter how you dress up poop it still stinks. See Isiah's roster (with noseplugs)

I know 82games.com is a little misleading, but what's interesting is that when Curry is off the court, we are +0.3 and when Marbury is off the court, we are +2.0.

What's even more interesting...we are -3.0 when Eddy is on the court and -3.5 when Marbury is on the court.

Eddy (OFF FLOOR) +4.1 in offensive rebounding

-4.6 in possessions (Eddy on court)...opponents get 4.6 more possessions with Eddy. When he is off the court, we are +2.4 (more posessions).

-97 points scored with Eddy on court
+4 with Eddy off the court

Now that we are aware that Lee is being kept out of the SL to be the 6th man, deliberately by Zeke,

That is taking the ball and running with it for sure. Here is the quote:
"He's got a chance to be Sixth Man of the Year," Thomas said. "That's the position he's in. He's having excellent success in that role. It's very hard to find a niche and have success in this league, and when you find it, you don't necessarily want to tinker with it too much. He seems to be doing OK with where he's at. Accolades and awards are coming in. Can you give me credit?"

I'm still looking for the part where he states that he is playing Lee off the bench to make him sixth man of the year. From what I can tell, IT is saying that Lee is succeeding, nay excelling in the role that he has been given, and that he may be 6th man of the year because of it.

To say that IT is playing Lee off the bench in order to make him sixth man of the year is just the usual hype and exaggeration of every word he utters.

you left this part out:

When asked if he could clarify what he meant by credit, Isiah responded "I'm the Juggernaut, Bitch!"

I've bee reading X-Men for a long time, but I missed you on that one.

Funny though, because even though I want Lee starting, it is very hard to complain when a guy is doing so well with the way he has been played.

Another thing, Lee has improved, but I don't think he has improved that much. He was damn good last year. He could have been a rebounding phenomenon as a rookie.

"Accolades and awards are coming in. Can you give me credit?" Operative word is ME. Remember this season isnt about Larry Brown attempting to coach and magically turn around these players. THIS SEASON IS ABOUT ISIAH and HIS players...can these players maintain ISIAH'S JOB? Can these players play and win FOR ISIAH.

Why not credit Lee? Why not start Lee- he is clearly outplaying Frye...he plays the majority of the game. Curry obviously needs help on the rebounding end...Frye and Jeffries are oft-benched. He keeps him on the bench so that ISIAH can say "accolades and awards are coming in...credit ME." Credit you! Cool we may have the best BENCH player in the league...how bout making Lee a starter...who the F gets a double-double off the bench??? EVERY NITE. Isiah the Genious & his award-winning "sixth man" David Lee. SWEEEEEET. (and this is nothing towards David but towards Isiah's flawed thinking).

I always give the player 98% of the credit. I am not a believer in coaches magically making silk purse out of sow's ear.

However, you have to give the coach the 2% of credit of putting a player in a role where he is excelling. There may be a hundred thing aboput Isiah's coaching to get mad about, but Lee is not one of them.

And I really don't see what IT said that was so bad. Really I don't. He has given Lee plenty of credit throughout the season.

I am for Lee starting too, but I think it is Jeffries that should go to the bench. That way the front line has shooting, rebounding, and inside scoring. No defense, but Jeffries is no Rodman, I just don't feel he makes that difference. In fact I like JJ better off the bench.

It's all how you interpret it. I personally think Lee has already won the starting job and it sounds like Isiah is trying to put Lee in a position to either not be in foul trouble by not starting him, or for him to get the 6th man of the year award. Does Isiah get credit for that? I really can't say yes. David Lee is the one putting the work in, and he could probably excel even more as a starter. Most other coaches would be riding on Lee's jockstrap right now while begging to get Curry and/or Frye to be traded.

It's interesting that our best stretch of the last two seasons came with AD at powerforward and Lee at SF.

Kinda speaks to the deficiencies, then and now, at those positions. I think Isiah's afraid to start Lee on the basis that Frye or Skinny would have such a hard time being productive off the bench.

The extra minutes Lee might get as a starter wouldn't be sufficient to translate to significant additional wins, but then, nor would Isiah have trophy players to point to.

In the end though, I have a feeling there were significant disagreements between Isiah and LB last year regarding the viability of a Curry and Frye pairing, and Isiah is working hard to prove himself right.

Whats Marburys rating since the brawl? Whats the knicks record with Marbury out of the lineup? Marbury played absolutly horrible in the beginning of the yr. Im sure thats a big reason why his 82games.com stats aren't looking so good.

That said I would move Marbury since he doesn't consistantly impact games the way he should. Like vs Bucks & Bobcats, he should have easily been the best player on the court and took over. Making him way overpayed. But the team isn't better without him. We are better with an upgrade over him.

I would also say that Isiah making Marbury & Francis allstars & the motion offense was scrapped when Eddie Curry showed that he could be a beast down low on offense. Last season a ton of people(especially the ones who diss like Marbury) begged for Marbury & Francis & everyone to take a secondary role to Eddie Curry. So it has now happend and its not working the way that everyone who blamed Marbury for last season thought it would. So now the heat is on Curry.

Isiah should tell Curry to take it all out on the League for not being in the all star game. Make them pay by performing at even a higher level.

I have a feeling none of our Knicks will make it to the all-star game. Not even Nate as a slam dunker.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Amazing... you're still feeling sorry for Marbury...

People were down on him last year because he had sooo much trouble to buy into his role as a PG. It was all about "freedom" for him. He'd have rather played SG than play as he's doing now. Ironically though, sometime in January '06 he started to "get it" and we went on a 6 game win streak. All this proved was that we could have won a lot more if he'd gotten with the program sooner, but alas...

Few people criticized his floor play then, though we did express a lack of faith in him on many levels over the long haul.

In stereotypical fashion, to prove his haters once again right, when he got injured he chose to express his "leadership" by challenging Brown through the media. I'm sure you remember comments like "he seems insecure" and "I think we should run NO set plays." On top of that he never regained his strength.

Of course few could have faith in him as a leader.

Additionally, last season saw Crawford as a less confident but more controlled PG. Some got the sense that if Isiah were bedding down with him in any capacity close to what he's done with Marbury he could reap a better return. Why? Better health, more coachable, more clutch, AND better chemistry with our new franchise player (as defined not by us but by Isiah): Eddy Curry.

Now things have changed for Crawford. Isiah rarely plays him at PG, and he's letting him get drunk on "freedom", and I no longer trust that Crawford is capable of what I thought he might be last year. There's such a lack of consistency around here.

Sure, some like yourself wish it were so simple as to believe that Isiah is always scapegoated first, followed by Marbury and then whoever else is in the eye of the storm, but I contend that when you have a perennially flawed roster and fans are in the same position as coaches in trying to figure out how to draw blood from a stone (otherwise known as trying to eek wins from a dysfunctional roster) one needs to get down to the nitty gritty of mental toughness, reliability, character, potential, leadership, likeability, chemstry, durability, etc.

Unfortunately, Marbury often comes up short on close inspection, as do far too many on this team.

But go ahead, weep another tear for Marbury and blame the fans.

well you said MSG and Dolan's mandate are partially responsible which is a reoccuring theme around here. Its something used as a constant excuse. You did say its Isiah's doing which obviously it is. I chose a poor tone in my response to your post though.. sorry about that. Didnt mean to come off like an ass (happens naturally for me)

its not misleading at all when there's a large body of work to draw on. When a guy only plays sporatic minutes those numbers are skewed. When your sampling a large body of work like 40+ games and looking at core players that are playing over 60% of the teams minutes those numbers paint a pretty clear picture.

One thing hurting those numbers has been the play of the starters and Frye, who's been awfull playing out of position at the 4. Those first 8-10 minutes have obviously hurt the other starter's ratings, but you cant ignore the rest and Lee's impact is just in your face.
