this is one of the only situations where i think the "it's not your money" thing applies. trading for an expiring deal vs buying someone out yourself? no big deal for NYK. and i'd rather not give up the picks/youth memphis would be after.

i'd do it. would memphis? why would they want a broke-down ex-star headcase who snubbed their franchise back in the day? they're tanking, they did the right thing for that strategy.

we'd have to give up picks or youth to make it happen. in that case i'd pass.

Any thoughts to us signing Eddie Jones and possibly waiving or trading one of our four-shooting PGs?
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

He'll go back to Miami because he has strong community ties there and hated being traded. He as a strong relationship with Riley. This will have a similar ending as when Zo returned.

Francis is one of the biggest cry babies in basketball, when he is not getting technicals he is complaining that mobley is no longer on the team, he has less value than jefferies on the open market

If you were Eddie, would you want to spend the final years of your career on this team?

I don't get why memphis would buyout Eddie Jones if they're looking to trade Gasol. Having Eddie around to trade just gives them more options for Gasol trade packages. NBA must not be doing so well money wise.

Eddie Jones is heading back to the Miami Heat, ESPN.com has learned.

Jones agreed Monday on a buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies, giving up about $300,000 of his $15.7 million salary to gain his freedom from the team with the NBA's worst record. The money lost through the buyout will be made up when he signs for a prorated portion of the NBA minimum.

Jones will clear waivers Thursday morning, after which he can sign with any NBA team.

However, a source close to the situation said Jones has already decided he'll sign with Miami, meaning it is possible he will be in uniform for the defending champs when they play the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night.

The 12-year veteran spent five seasons with the Heat before being dealt to the Grizzlies in the five-team trade in the summer of 2005 that sent James Posey, Jason Williams and Antoine Walker to the Heat.

Jones was averaging just 5.6 points in 29 games for the Grizzlies after being a 16.0 scorer over the first dozen years of his career.

I think trading expiring deals is a done art form.

Hey, isn't that the best GM in the league buying out an expiring contract?

Funny how different rules apply to different people.
Let's go Knicks. That's amare

Jerry was more than likely doing Eddy a favor for being such a team oriented guy. Their history goes back to the Laker days.

Jerry West, what a dummy... wasting a valuable expiring contract like that when he could have easily traded for Kevin Garnett instead.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

They are in rebuild mode and it's obvious you don't make a move for Garnett given their situation. Not in case they could keep Gasol which no one is dumb enough to think that's possibly feasible.
