When Kobe focuses in, he’s a good defensive player. When he decides he’s not going to give any player anything, he will be the best.”

—Jim Cleamons, Lakers assistant coach

“Kobe’s a model of what a young player should aspire to be. Year by year he learned and made his game more solid, and now he’s not just a highlight-film guy but an accomplished NBA player.”
— Larry Brown, Philadelphia head coach

“I see a lot of myself in him. No doubt about it.”
—Michael Jordan

“Nobody can guard Kobe one-on-one. Nobody.”
—Del Harris, former Los Angeles coach

"If I was to answer that question honestly, I would have to lie to you."

- Isiah Thomas, when asked if any teams were interested in trading for Shandon Anderson.

"We'll put it in our scouting report, maybe it'll help us next time."

This is basyc public relations rule:
"I you have noithing good to say about yourself say something good about you opponent."

After the game: Tomas:
Kobe is great player and Lakers are great team - we lost because we are not so great... but we are OK.
Or Kobe is great player and Lakers are great team but it was close so we are also good.
Or Kobe is great player and Lakers are great team but we win so we can be even better.

Win-win situation... Tomas is a winner in life

I've tried to told people similar thoughts, how he chooses his words in the press. He's just not good at it. Like last week saying New Jersey is a great team and all but saying his team wasn't.

I'm with IT here--I love watching kobe play too. There is such a uniqueness about kobe--he is a PURE warrior in a time where they are hard to find--yet he also poccess's the best skills--despite multiple knee injuries/surgeries. Kobe isnt MJ but he is as close as you get.

Every media session with Isiah should start with the disclaimer:

"To James Dolan"

And end with:

"Please don't fire me"

JVG used to do the same thing. Jordan used this trick alot to. I think that because Isiah is constantly making excuses before games, though it does have a different connotation.

dude nobody is saying Kobe isnt good. But the way hes talking before a game is not very encouraging to our team, he creates this tone of "we're not good, they are better.. but we'll try i guess"

The point everyone seems to be missing is that this the one time Isiah is actually being 100% honest.

what if (Isiah) said before the game:

"Kobe is a great player but im confident our players are going to rise to the challenge and play hard...

so what if the opposing team plays "hard"?

>>I feel like if we bring energy and effort we can play with anyone"

and if the opposing team brings energy and effort you have a standoff, yes?

Why do you guys micro-analyze every mi-nute word Isiah utters is beyond me. Who cares what he says to the press. I doubt he's in the lockerroom before the game holding hands with his players singing hymns about how great Kobe is.

bigbeast - haven't you heard, Isiah Thomas is Satan

"I'm trying to help you guys out. You write about the game but evidently you don't know the game. You ask me questions. I'm trying to give you an idea of what it's about and you still don't listen to me. I don't like wasting my time. If you ask me something, you should listen to me or you should watch the game. That's all I want you to do."

- Don Chaney, NYK head coach
