The current NBA All-Star Game is the worst EXHIBITION GAME OF ALL-TIME.

Dallas 35-9
Suns 34-8

Yeah let's leave this in the hands of the Fans

Also LOL @ Gilbert Arenas admitting in the past he voted for himself several times. So is Gilbert a fan giving what the Fans want?

Arenas deserves to be in the Allstar game... certainly over Vince Carter

Nash & Dirk not starting is a joke, just like Shaq even being on the roster.

Did you see Vince's half-hearted tip-in attempt at the buzzer last night? It's like he had money on the NETS to lose.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Both of those guys are top 5 players. Fans should only be able to vote the reserves not the starters.

fans should only be allowed to vote after the players on the ballot are first determined by the coaches & sports writers based on their play THAT season... no reputation picks allowed when you've only played a tiny portion of the games that year... that makes the entire game a farce IMO.

Fans shouldn't be allowed to vote at all IMO. The fan base IQ has dramatically gotten worse. Since they are allowed to vote, it should be limited to 1 vote per individual and they should call it in. I don't mind players that were injured getting in as long as they don't start and/or play heavy minutes. Sports Writers, Coaches and Commentators are the only one who should be allowed to vote. I'm really sick and tired of hearing this is about the fans as if the fans who vote won't watch the game because they can't vote.

It's an "All-star" game, not a "best players" game. A "star" is a popularity thing.

It's for the fans, so they should see who they want to see, and the fans vote in who they want to see.

Some players will get jobbed no matter what the system. We've sen players get let in by the coaches who did not deserve it, like it is a lifetime achievement award, Vlade Divac's second appearance comes to mind.

Vince got voted in over Jordan in Jordan's last comeback, Jordan might not even have deserved to be in the game but the coaches let him in anyway.

It is not just who is having the best year.

oohah

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

in that case let's determine who gets in by which players sold the most jerseys that year... we can call it the "All Favorites Team" & no one's feelings will be hurt when they're putting up a monster year & don't ge recognized for it... hey that way we might even have a Knick in the game afterall.

like i said, allowing the fans to vote makes the Allstar game a complete farce.

Yes. It's insane how bad the fans choices are. Plus they stuff the ballots. They should not get to vote. Period.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

That's entertainment!

"All-Star" and "All-Favorites" are synonymous. A star is literally a fan favorite. Usually it coincides with great play, but often a more exciting player is a bigger star than a better player.

It's no different in any other part of entertainment. Is the biggest star actor the best actor? Is the biggest music star the best musician or singer? Not the last time I checked.

But the MVP and the best player on the best team? Thats an injustice don't you think. Sure both will probably get recoginzation at the end of the season but they belong as starters in the All-Star game. If Nash was maybe the third best point guard and Dirk was just pretty decent but Duncan has not had one of his better years or Garnett though a great player his teams always stink. Dirk and Steve belong as starters for the West.

It's an injustice sure, but thems the breaks! It actually upsets me more when a guy who might be having a great year and this one year is his only chance and he is bumped because the coaches like another player better, or are rewarding him for being solid for 10 years like with Divac. They are supposed to be more objective than the fans.

Like in the post I made above, this cuts across all industries like acting and music. The people see who they want to see. Star and good ain't the same thing!

Yeah a back-to-back MVP winner isn't really recognized as a STAR at all. He's just one of many good players. Actually All-Star means you are the STAR of Stars relative to the position you play.

It did and David Stern purposely wanted it to go there. It's probably the main reason Yao Ming is the leading Vote Getter yr after yr. Is Yao that athletic, not necessarily, does he throw the ball off the backboard to himself and dunk it Rucker Park style uhhhhhh No!

Imagine if the Knicks were 35-8 or 34-9 respectively and they had no starter voted in by the fans(although highly unlikely considering the market), Oohah would SHOOT HIS LOAD!

2 time MVP not starting?

Dirk, So far a strong MVP candidate and lead team to finals last year.

Fans vote for popularity.
