doesn't make us better and chemistry wise we are starting over.
which of the 12 trades proposed in the last day are the ones you actually believe in briggs?
we replace 38% shooters with 45% shooters and get more athletic @ the 3+ a shot blocker and a vet PG + two rookies who can really play two way basketball
I like it. Well thought out. Carroll can really shoot it and I always liked Hunter (he led the league in blocks per min. with Phoenix). Some other guys I'd consider would be:
(1) Mikael Pietrus from GS - he's been out recently with the broken nose and recently a sprained ankle, nothing too serious. But I think his days are numbered in GS though. His contract is running out and they just pulled off the big trade to bring Al Harrington, Stephen Jackson AND Jasikevicius (all swingmen). Plus they also have Jason Richardson (he's hurt but he's their best player along with Davis) and Matt Barnes who's been playing great ball for them. Where's he play when they get everyone back? When the Warriors are at full strength, he def. plays but he prob. won't start and won't get the minutes he deserves. He won't be happy being a reserve & getting 20-25 mins. Question for the Knicks is, can we get him after the season with the mid-level a-la Jared Jeffries? I doubt it. I love Maggette's game but he's always hurt. Pietrus is younger than and very similiar to Maggette. If they don't wind up unloading him soon (I'm hearing rumors now that GS's interested in Nazr Mohammed) I'd consider trading for him. We can do this trade tomorrow if we offered Lee (esp. with Murphy gone) but would a trade built around Frye be enough to get it done? I think so. Frye's better than Mohammed, that's for sure. Would you do it? Thinking long and hard about this one. I might man. It would prob. be a sign-and-trade scenario involving a larger package though.
(2) Some options from the D-league:
(a) Louis Amundson from the Colorado 14ers - saw this kid play for UNLV a few times and during the summer against us and I really like what I see. He's 6'9" and has an awesome first step to the basket. He can carve his way to the cup and get his shot off with the best of 'em, play some defense, can board and is just plain agressive as hell overall. He got a nice edge to his game. Already a much better option at the 3 than Jeffries. Think David Lee with a slightly better offensive game at this point slashing to the basket. This kid facing up on his man 10 feet away is taking it hard to the tin for the score or is going to the foul line almost ever time.
(b) Chris Rodgers, Albuquerque Thunderbirds - saw him play plenty of times for Arizona. 6'4" 1/2-guard. Now Lute had a little disipline problem and had to sit him down a few games (forgot what for) but this kid can handle, score it a little, ran the offense fine and is an ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE on-the-ball defender. One of the best defenders I've ever seen in college at the guard position, no joke. Briggs'll tell ya. As a defender, think a combo. of a young Derek Harper and Chris Childs. I said in my own post that I'd go with Frank Williams if we ever dealt Jamal and Nate, and I like Williams a lot, but Chris Rodgers would now be my first choice. He'd immediately help out with our awful perimeter defense, I can tell you that.
--- See the problem for me with Isiah is that instead of signing marginal talent like Jerome James and Jared Jeffries or a talented but misguided/overrated player like Jamal Crawford to huge deals is that he's gotta open his eyes and really look around a little more for better, more responsible options. They're out there - guys like Matt Carroll, Amundson, Rodgers, Frank Williams, you guys know I wanted Justin Williams ever since the draft, etc...
If we can't land first-rate-type talent like AK-47, Artest or even a guy like Pietrus, there are other options that make sense and that fill deficiences. The Anthony Masons and John Starks are out there man, I'm telling ya.
