Looks like we're doing much better than last year and as I can see, some of you don't agree. Well' Let me point out a few facts to you to try and set you straight on the perspective of what is happening in Knicks land in relationship to playing basketball against this particular league, in these times.
First of all, I'd like you's to notice that most of the league is under .500! Did you notice that under 'half' of the league even has a winning record?! Kind of hard to believe, so when people say the Knicks have been playing crappy teams, well' I think you should take into consideration of quality in the league. And let me point out that the Knicks didn't exactly get pushed off the map by the dominate teams either. But in all fairness, I listed a break down of how we are doing in the watered down league. It's true that we have a better record against lousy teams, each month, but we have also been able to beat some of the good ones also. Zeke, I noticed, does tend to make some excuses, but what is he supposed to do? Throw in the towel and completely give up? What kind of motivation would that be. I'll tell a few of you folks who don't like Isiah, he is much, much more positive than Brown was and that is at least a great start. I will elaborate more on that after you look at the list.
The leagues winning and losing record as a whole is 14 teams with winning records vs. 16 teams with losing records. I think it is fair to say, with the Knicks on they're way to a projected 34 wins season so far, it is by far much better than last year. Unless of course your happy with last years record, in which case I'd say you need help.
Knicks W-L records month by month: October 4-2 November 5-11 December 7-9 January 4-2 (so far)
I guess one way you can look at it, in a way we are lucky the league is not winning much better. This gives the Knicks a chance to have a better record than last year and I beleive will help they're confidence. Let's not fool ourselves, we still have some developing to do, but so far, things are much better.
Now for the good and the bad. Here's a break down of the Knicks vs. good teams and crappy teams month by month.
October 4-2 vs. crappy
November 3-3 vs. crappy 3-9 vs. quality
December 4-3 vs. crappy 3-5 vs. quality
January 4-2 vs. crappy
Now, as you can see, it's obvious that we are better against the crappy teams. But also notice, 6-14 vs. quality teams isn't too bad either. And to make further the point of quality in the league, the last three quallity teams we played, we beat two out of three, towards the end of December. Consider also, that the other three wins we got against quality teams, took about a month to get. That shows we are growing. I believe things are looking up. We are winning more often. Curry is a huge part of that and if you noticed, the team is starting to come 'TOGETHER'! Something that was definately missing last year. If there is anything' that Zeke should be commended for, then it should be the fact that he's kept a positive outlook on this team and I think it is starting to show more and more. The players respect him and that's extremely important for such a young team. It is important that Zeke has everyone's attention and equally important that he keep them focused. There was a very nice article on the 'resurgence of the Knicks' as it was stated in the US Today newspaper today. The article focused on David Lee and the impact he has had on this team. I'll look it up and try to post it seperately.
There is something else that should be taken into account here also. What is it that the Knicks are right now, that they were not last year? They are better than nine teams in the league and tied to be better than 12. Last year we were the second worst and that was at the end of the season. At this point, we are only getting better and have a chance to have at least a .500 season. We're not even at the All-Star break yet. There are so many ways to look at this team and the season positively.
Before anyone goes off the deep end, there is no doubt that this team is much better than last year and on the rise. The Knicks are getting nothing but better. It all makes sense. It's a very young team, with a long future and as they grow with each other, they will get to know each other better and play better. Curry is showing that he can be a domination in this league, with Frye and Jeffries at his side and Lee coming off the bench, this will be one of the teams to beat in the next couple of years. We the fans need to give them time to develop.
On the subject of balance, we are one of three teams in the league that has seven players scoring in double digits. Two other teams, New Orleans/OKC and Golden State Warriors have eight players that are scoring in double digits. Only Golden State and Milwaukee have a slightly better record than us, which goes to show we have a team that makes the most of it's opportunities, when it comes to scoring. I love the fact that anyone of these guys can at any time, take over a game. We don't need to rely on one dominate player (and what if we end up getting a dominate player?). And let's not forget either, we dominate the boards. We couldn't say that before.
The Knicks need to keep playing tough luck win basketball. They need to keep fighting hard to win. What they are really doing is showing themselves that they have the ability to be greater than they think. I saw it happen in Detroit and I saw it happen in Chicago years ago. those teams were always getting beat up and they fought and fought through it all and Zeke on one team and Jordan on another team showed the team that they could do better. That's what this team is really about right now. It's about finding that Knick heart that we are famous for. Getting that toughness back in New York. It showed it's ugly face a little when that fight broke out against Denver, when that sissy Carmelow ran like a little cry baby, after he 'slapped' Collins in the face. But the point is, you saw what the Knicks could do with less, right?! Fighting through it and showing yourself what your made of is what is't all about.
My whole point is, we are' improving.
