He's sugarcoating terrible terrible losses and making up excuses for this team left and right, and when we beat up on crappy teams, he acts like the Knicks are the toast of the town. I just can't listen to this guy speak anymore. It's insulting to fans, whether it's his way of communicating with Dolan or not (Which is against team policy btw.) Dolan should be fired for keeping this guy, and Thomas should be fired for this poor ars job he's done.

To think, I actually respected Thomas as a coach, at the beginning of the season, but now he's doing nothing but peeing on the grave of Red Holzman and saying it's OK to do so as well.

And what's the point in even keeping this guy. He's not getting through to this team as a coach, his offseason aquisition and his MVP of the year are on the bench, disagreeing with him on the air and he's flat out proven to be incompetant as a GM. What's his role here?

Isiah's tread water in his 3 years on the job as far as the bottom line is concerned, and now he says it will take 3 or 4 more years for this team to play together until we are seriously competitive -- or, as he says, until the players "figure it out" and it "all makes sense."

So that's a 6 or 7 year plan to get his team to "figure it out."

That's more than mildly absurd, and it's pretty insulting to NY fans, some of whom might actually buy his drivel.

Assuming we win no more than 39 games (winning 40 games would mean we go 24-20 the rest of the way), he had better be fired.

But knowing Dolan, if we go 20-24 the rest of the way and finish 36-46, he will justify brining back Isiah by saying he managed to improve us by 13 wins from last season. But everyone on this board knows what crap that is.

Noo, not everyone, and where did he say that "Four more years" statement?

Thomas Says Progress Will Take Time
By THE NEW YORK TIMES
GREENBURGH, N.Y., Jan. 14 — With the Knicks unable to put together a consistent stretch of solid play this season, Coach Isiah Thomas said Sunday that steadier days would come over time.

He said that the Knicks’ inconsistency was a result of their youth. After easy victories against Portland, Seattle and Philadelphia, the Knicks were routed Friday by the Charlotte Bobcats, one of the league’s worst teams.

“It takes a while before you figure it out in this league,” he said.

When asked about a specific time frame, Thomas said: “You really become one of those teams that’s played together three or four years, or two or three years. Then it kind of all makes sense to you.”

Thomas may not have that kind of time. When Thomas was named the Knicks’ coach in June, James L. Dolan, the Madison Square Garden chairman, gave him one year to show “significant progress” with the team he assembled.

Ohh, so he's pretty much begging Dolan to keep his job.

Funny part is by his math, he is implying that you have to keep the same players together on a team for 7 years with little turnover.

Great. Doaln sign them all to 4 year extensions so we can make the 2nd round!

Then why is he playing Marbury? DUdes contract is up in two years...if you are building a team, you play the guys who will "win" and stick together over the duration of the 3-4 yrs.

Jamal/Mardy
Q/Nate/Jamal
Jeffries/Balkman
Frye or Lee/Frye or Lee/Jeffries
Curry/Frye/Lee

The question is why isn't he playing Balkman?

I mean Arenas and Jamison can't be stopped, and now Matt Carrol and Derek Anderson waiver players are lighting the knicks up for almost 60 points and they make under 3 million combined.......

Maybe i don't see what Isiah sees, but its a perfect example you can rent players, not saying anderson is all that good, but you don't need to overpay for losers like JJ1 and JJ2 and give a contract to Steve Francis, would much rather have somoene like carrol who can knock down a jumper and actually cares

because sad as it is Marbury is still his best player? Jamal is a total enigma. He played well for Larry when Larry basicly told him he wasnt allowed to shoot. Now its back to shake, bake and launch a fall away 20 footer. Its bad basketball.

Larry played Jamal more at the PG and Steph at the two. Playing the PG curbs Jamal's chucking tendencies.

If LB got the full year its silly to think Isiah will be fired 1 game out of first place
I LOVED how Curry just exploded in the 4th, speaking as a fan of the Raptors, Curry looked well, scary I think is the word. Or Shaq-like Curry: 19.1ppg-7.3rpg-58%fg

Its silly you mentioned 1 game out of first, thats like saying it was an accomplishment to get into the playoffs the first year isiah was here with an under 500 record.....

Isiah is the biggest disaster in pro sports history no one has wasted more money in short time, with less to show for it....

That is all true but that is all in the past. dolan is looking at this year and said Isiah has the whole year. Dolan is probably mad that Isiah wasted about $120 mill on players /coachs that arent even around but we are still 1 game out and Dolan will not fire Isiah after 38 games when we have a very good shot at the playoffs. Dolan also wanted to see progress from our youth. I think he sees that in Curry, Lee and frye.

it's a new year and a different league but 1 year ago today, nj was 19-15. if the expected did happen this year (meaning the east wasn't the worst league ever), then the knicks and the raps would be 6-8 games back.

He is playing a lot better than he started the season. I dont know his averages in the last month but I would bet they are better than last year

What is that saying though. If he averaged 10ppg this last month and only 5 the previous, is that really progress? Frye has gotten worse than he was last year.

I don't see much progress out there in all honesty.......

David Lee needed minutes and he got them, he is a hustle player that outworks other players and knows where to be on the floor when it comes to rebounding, he working on his game. Isiah get credit for drafting him, don't really see how he developed....

Crawford: Has degressed in every aspect of his game, he has showed no progress on the defensive end, is shooting worse than ever, making terrible decision and his freedom has really helped put us in some huge holes. Go ahead defend a 38% shooter that turns it over three times a game, because he made a couple of big shots, he has also taken a ton of big shots

Nate: Give me a break, he is a little showboat, that acts like a huge child out there, Isiah has given him freedom, much like crawford and he has not brought a lot on the defensive, hardly ever passes, and every now and again goes on a scoring spree that helps the team, but other than that he has hurt more than he has helped with his behavior....

Frye: Has digressed completely, showed zero progress this year, he is not rebounding, he is shooting a worse percentage, never gets to the line and rarely hits the boards. Isiah has made him a wondering jump shooter.....thats progress?

Curry: Has really progressed offesively and has become a beast inside scoring hte ball, but his to's continue to rise, he still rebounds only when he is involved, his shot blocking and assists are disgraceful. So if you want to tell me he has made strides offensively i will agree with that because he is scoring easy baskets in bunches. Some of it has to do with Eddys progression but he does get the ball a lot more now that he is the focal point....happy offensively little else however

Dlee has progressed. He isnt just a hustle player. he posts up now. He passes well now. He improved his fts. Thats progress.

Jcraw, and Nate have regressed.

Curry has progressed. He no longer is a major threat for offensive fouls. He already has more asisists than he did all last year. He has added a left hand, spin moves and a nice drop step. Is he perfect? No but he obviously has progressed to the point that other teams double and triple team him. He has only been out scored by like 6 or 7 other starting centers head to head this season in 38 games.

Frye of the first month was worse than last year. Frye of the last month is better than last year.

Qrich is obviously better this year as well.

The bottom line is Larry got the full year and so will Isiah regardless of if people like Isiah or hate Isiah.
