only one of them needs to do this but I think the answer comes from within.

I think all this team needs is time, we have a great core and players capable of growing at all positions. I actually think our perimiter defense has gotten a lot better and Steph/Jamal/Jeffries/Qrich/Balkman are all capable.

The question is our inside Defense. I like Frye/Curry/Lee and what they bring to the table, but the one thing they are missing is a defensive stopper. A shot blocking post/help defender. I believe if either Curry or Frye can develop into this then we will have a great team going forward.

Frye is a more likely canidate for the job - Is it possible that Frye could become a shot blocker? He has shown that he has a great work ethic and I think if he focused on becoming a post defender he could get there. Maybe im just being too hopeful but I think its a key to our success and if I'm Isiah thats what i'm having Channing work on

I'd say no to both. They just aren't natural defensive players. Frye is hurt by his Frame, Curry hurt by low bball IQ/ effort level on the defensive end.

Frye has lateral movement shortcomings, but you know what I have noticed recently? This kid is pretty damn tall. I don't know if he will ever be a stopper, but he does make guys think when he steps in to challenge drives to the hole.

Once he learns to stop reaching so much and maybe gets some more respect from the officials I think he will be better than average on defense.

The stopper? I think that will be Balkiman.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

No to both. Swiss cheese defense... too many mice.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

I believe that they both could if they made the commitment. I mean come on, with Curry's size along he should be knocking/bumping players out of the post enough that he can easily block shots. He needs to use his size to his advantage and become an intimidator at the most. I mean no one would call Shaq a "defensive stopper" but you also knew that there was a great probabilty that you would have your shot blocked if you came into the lane against him.

Out of the two, while I think they both could do it if they put in the effort, I think Curry has the best shot. I think that defense would take away from Frye's offense. And that's not all bad....Dirk Norwitcki (sp) is all I have to say to that. Not much defense but superb offense! I'll take it.
NY KNICKS 4 EVER! Will we ever find players like Anthony Mason, Xavier McDaniels, Patrick Ewing again? I hope so.

Sorry, I fail to see how you're making the distinction.

I think Frye will eventually become a decent defender. Curry can as well. But I don't think either has the tools, mindset or attitude to be a defensive STOPPER.

I think they both can become better. Neither will become all-nba defensive players, but Curry has shown that he can block shots when focused and Frye is willing to play defense but is hurt by his lack of lateral quickness as someone already noted. I think Frye will learn how to play better defense within the limitations of his body and once Curry masters the offensive aspects of his game, I am sure IT is going to make him focus more on the defensive aspects of his game. Both have enough potential that I would rather us give them another year of development before trading one or the other.

Frye is a weak player that doesn't have strong hands, knows nothing about position, rebounding or using his body. He is a four on this team and doesn't have the lateral movement or explosive athleticism to be a good defender, he is a boy in the paint and thats not going to change.

Curry is still overweight even though he is one of the more dominant forces in the league. He has quick feet and is very athletic and moves well for his size. If he really asserted himself he would up his rebounding numbers and get blocks by default.

The question should be can either of them become average defensively.

I think Curry needs to lose about another 20 pounds before he's light enough on his feet to be a defensive presence down low... being in synch w/Craw & Marbs on alley oop plays & having good footwork down low in the post is different than being light enough on your feet to react to defenders penetrating into the lane & rotating on help defense.

i think he has a better chance of growing into a better defender than Channing though because he's playing down in the paint more often than not while Channing is floating on the perimeter & playing off pick & rolls & setting screens for the G's on the outside, so he's not often in position to block shots or to rotate on help defense to stop penetration.
