Shouldn't that tell you how worthless this +/- stats are????
+/- numbers arent worthless at all. It just depends on the sampling. When a hitter has a good week in April do you really think he's going to project to hit 100 homers and 250 RBIs? Cato played very well for that 2 week stretch when guys were suspended, but its a small sampling.
Anyway,
I harped all summer long that Frye was a center, and not suited to play PF in the NBA, and a terrible fit next to Curry.
Frye on draft night: "I'm a center."
You need a dirty work player next to Curry. I suggested (rather than signing JJSkinny) a guy like Reggie Evans would be a great fit, and since Isiah is clearly commited to Curry above all that it made sense to trade Frye (did I mention he's a center?) to fill another need. Pietrus comes to mind as a 2/3 stopper and great open court player.
So lets see whats happened.... Curry and Frye have been terrible together. How many nights have we seen the Knicks go into a large hole and early? And against bad teams?
A big part of the reason Curry/Frye/Marbury dont have better +/- numbers is because Frye/Curry stars and they are terrible together. Frye goes out, in comes Lee at PF and the play instantly gets better. However Marbury always takes the hit on his +/- for those bad starts.
If you look at any line up with Curry/Lee/Marbury and no Frye the +/- numbers are usually good.
