What's Up With...Indiana?
Hovering Around .500 Again, The Pacers Have A Tough Choice To Make
Blow It Up:
Their young talent hasn't panned out as they'd hoped. Three or four years ago, Jermaine O'Neal, Jonathan Bender, Al Harrington and Jamall Tinsley looked like a solid core for years to come. Now they look like a group of veterans who aren't good enough to contend and aren't young enough to become something special. This team is in limbo, which is why they have to think about trading O'Neal - now, while he still have value. If his production dips, he's Chris Webber. Who would want to pay the last three plus years of that seven-year, $123 million deal? - Tim Legler
Stay The Course:
The mediocre nature of the East keeps them a contender. I wouldn't pick them to win the conference, but get in the playoffs, and...well, look what happened with Miami last spring. With O'Neal, Harrington and Danny Granger, they're closer to being a good team than a bad one. It's only inconsistency at ponit guard that has them not playing up to their capability. Besides, trading O'Neal is easier said than done. As good as he still is, a team that wants him may not be able to offer a deal that makes sense for Indiana. - Greg Anthony
