O'neal seems to want out of Indiana. He is very close with IT. Would you guys give up Lee in a trade for him. He's 28 and a shot blocker. Could Play PF and compliment Curry. We might have to give up a Draft pick or 2.

Personally, I'd rather give up Frye than Lee. Other wise, the trade is fine.

Damn it no David lee ever. Channing frye is the ric smits waiting to happen. That's how we gotta sell it. Indiana still has a hard image cuz of "the brawl". They can stick pretty boy frye on their billboards for the Hicks to see.

I hate Frye but I hate oneal even more but at least with oneal we have a guy that will bang and playing with curry will take tons of stress off his mangled body.

DO THIS TRADE!

I'd trade Frye, Nate and whatever for J O'Neal. People forget O'Neal blocks over 3 shots a game.

The only reason I put Lee in the Trade is because I think most teams would want him over Frye. To get a guy like O'neil I think we would have to give up our best young player.

That trade makes us better short term, but hurts us long term. You're probably right about having to give up Lee to do it, but sometimes the best trades are the one you don't make. So, I'd pass on that one.

Ira,

Do you think Lee will ever become as good offensive as O'neal. He blocks shot, rebounds and scores and he's only 28.

Yeah, I LOVE David Lee, but he's no Jermaine O'neal. Not even close. I'd hate to trade Lee, but to get JO you simply have to.

the price may be frye + lee. that's alot to give up but we're talking about jermaine o'neal, one of the best bigs in the game, in his EARLY prime (he's only 28) that plays DEFENSE in the post.

jermaine + curry + marbury with a supporting cast of crawford, nate, jeffries, and q (if healthy) can make a serious run in the east and not for a year or two, but for 3-5 years.

i think we have to look at this realistically. you MAKE the trade if the price is frye + lee. the knicks WILL make this trade. jermaine is young enough to last another 4-5 years at a very high level. plus he loves isiah.

but without jalen or mo around, a deal for jermaine is pretty much moot.

Lee for O'neal would make us reasonably competative over the next 4 years, but the Knicks are never going to the top without a new backcourt. If we don't trade, we can still have Lee and Curry peaking while we refurbish the backcourt. I say, don't make this trade. If for some reason they would take Frye, sure, make it.

i think with a o'neal/curry frontcourt, our backcourt actually becomes BETTER as they don't have to heave up shots and concentrate more on passing the ball around. not to mention they can play a little closer to their man on defense.

we would have to definitely acquire a shooter of some sort, but that could be someone like mo pete.

bonn - we do that deal. i think larry bird does that deal. but would bird and isiah do business?

New York Trade Breakdown
Outgoing

Nate Robinson
5-9 PG from Washington

Channing Frye
6-11 C from Arizona

Jerome James
7-1 C from Florida A&M

Malik Rose
6-7 PF from Drexel

Incoming

Jermaine O'Neal
6-11 PF from Eau Claire (HS)

Malik has one year less on his deal than O'Neal. Jerome expires at the same time as O'Neal.

They get a young PG and a young PF/C who will look very nice paired with Jeff Foster(who can cover for Channing's rebounding) and Al Harrington.

Frye
Foster
Harrington
Stephen Jax(short term)
Nate

I'd even consider throwing in a conditional pick.

We get

Curry
O'Neal
Lee
Q or Crawford(short term)
Marbury

Personally I would like this alot more if we moved Jamal to the one and drafted a well rounded two way wing player or traded for a young one.

Why not try and give them Curry, since his value is probably much higher than Frye's right now, and you can put Frye at the C with JO at the PF? What would be the point in having Curry anyway, if we'd have JO taking control.
