Didn't read the whole thing, but just upon first glance this is a very subjective form of analysis. There are not enough categories for players, and how does one define what category a player falls into. Clearly, the author is using his own subjective analysis that appears to be based on what # pick a player was selected.

Pervis Ellison may have been a "bust" from one standpoint but he put up pretty decent numbers for a few years with the Bullets, including one season where he averaged 20ppg and 11rpb. He was a "Solid Starter" for a period, as was Olowokandi, and arguably Kwame Brown does play some minutes. Is Joe Smith really that much better than them that he gets to be considered a "Solid Starter?" Smith never averaged 20ppg in his career, and Ellison's downfall more had to do with injury, I think.

There are plenty of other similarly questionable examples throughout, but clearly to go from "Solid Starter" to "Bust" is a pretty grand leap. A lot of these players are not "Solid Starters" but more like "Rotation Players" (which should at least be an additional category) and others not even that. Is Mike Sweetney really a "Solid Starter" or a "Rotation Player?" Doesn't appear that way.

Interesting breakdown, but quite flawed, it seems.

some thoughts based on the conclusions of the piece:

-channing was an 8th pick; he can definitely be good but if we were looking for a superstar it was unrealistic.

-losing out on our pick last year was horrible. the top 4 picks are where almost all the superstars come from; that was a once in a lifetime chance to pick from among those potential caliber players

EDIT: ike i agree it's very subjective. i wouldn't try to read into it much deeper than i just did.
