I read on realgm that the pick that we will get from the bulls in the swap will go to utah becuase the protection on that pick (from the marbury trade) most likely wont be enough to stop it from going to the jazz since the bulls are winning games now. is that true? is that how that works? cuase ive never heard of that.

See....the first thing you did wrong was rely on RealGM for information.

The Knicks have theirs or the Bulls this year.

thats actually a good point...

yeah I know but, I was wondering if we would have to give the pick to utah in the event that we swap with the bulls (and we almost certainly will) and the pick that we get from the bulls turns out to be like the 25th or so pick (which isnt particularly unlikely with the way they have been playing).

Remember we do technically owe a pick to Utah but it was never that big of a deal since its protected in such a way (I forgot Exactly what that protection is) so that we wont have to give it to them unless we are a good team before 2010, at wich point it loses its protection. (Its like top 23 protected or something right now). We may not be a good team, but the chicago bulls probably will be.

so my question is, if the pick we get from the bulls exceeds the protection of that owed utah pick, will we have to give it to utah? I know it may not work this way but I dont know that it doesnt. and if it doesnt work this way, than Id be curious to know why not.....

Slim, I'm no expert but I'd guess the pick owed Utah is "OUR" pick, not "A" pick. As such, perhaps through mutual agreement we may be able to use A pick to satisfy our obligations to them, but it wouldn't happen without mutual agreement.

Or so I'd guess.

BTW, who was the source on realGM? Unless it's garyclips or kosmovitelli I wouldn't pay it much mind.
