Sivan: New York: The Way the Knicks are Playing Looks like they can take the division, You think?

Chad Ford: (12:22 PM ET ) They might. How weird will that be? They should disband the Atlantic Division this year now that the Nets have lost Nenad Krstic. I think the Nets will still have a shot, but if I were to handicap it ... I think the Knicks have the best shot, followed by the Nets, then the Raptors. Boston will keep in the hunt too. But what we're really talking about is first prize in an ugly contest.

Chad Ford: (12:23 PM ET ) What will be so funny is to hear Isiah somehow warp that accomplishment in the media ... claiming he rebuilt the Knicks back into a top seeded playoff team. Ugh.

Kristic is important but a team really should be able to recover from losing its fourth best player. That's a lame excuse to throw in the towel for the season.

I know it must kill Ford to give props to the Knicks or IT.

If we finish at .500 or under and win the division, then maybe he is right. But, if we finish above .500 then he eats his words. Just as most have done regarding Balkman.

Well, you'd be in trouble too if Jason Collins was your best (only) big man.

Then you've got a poorly constructed front court, which is a deeper problem.

JEEZUS, i can't believe Ford would try & use Krstic going down as an excuse for the Nets to finish behind the Knicks this season... as if having half the team out for the entire week, Francis & Q out for much of the year, & Marbury playing the worst ball of his career early in the season had zero effect on the Knicks.

I agree. If you have Kidd, Jefferson, Carter there is no excuse for not winning the division. Krstic? Give me a break

Eh, people will bag on us if we have a winning or losing record. It comes with the NYK Fan Membership. I still want us to have a winning record (and it's not that out of reach, BTW) but I think the playoffs is going to be so more valuable for this team.

If Knicks continue on this path and begin to win some games, battle back to respectability, it going to be a bitter pill for lots of sports writers to swallow....

Regarding Krstic-- until the injury, he was Curry's prime competition for an all-star spot at center (assuming Bosh is thought of as a PF). Relatively similar numbers...

Curry: 18.3ppg/.7apg/7.1rpg/.5bpg/56.1FG% - 33.4mpg

Krstic: 16.4ppg/1.8apg/6.8rpg/.9bpg/52.6FG% - 32.6mpg

he's a good player, but that Nets team has more than enough talent to win the division this season w/3 legitimate Allstars in their starting 5... for Chad Ford to downplay the Knicks possibly winning the division & using Krstic going down as a means to do it is pretty classless.

I don't want Curry to make the all star team...I want him to feel he got overlooked and has something to prove...I want him to rest for the second half of the season....

Why do some people think that going from mediocre to bad and back to mediocre is deserving of some kind of props? Wow, Isiah spent half a billion to maybe turn the Knicks back to a mediocre team. He really showed us up.

Guy it's part of being a fan of all teams. When teams stink people don't want to watch it. Perform, that's sports. The greats understand this. Losing teams don't

Yeah I'm not sure I understand this either. If a team wins 30 something games year after year and then follows it up with 23 wins they are going to get bashed in the papers. Then when they win 40 somehow writers have to eat their words. What words are they eating? I don't get it. I get so confused as to what people are complaining about.

When a team wins 23 games, most articles will be negative. When they win 55 games most will be positive. Is their something I'm missing? What are writers supposed to be writing about?

If the Nets miss the playoffs, it will be because they were missing their best big. In fairness, they weren't deep at that spot to start with. The Nets *could* still win the division. Will they? Don't know. Losing Krstic is huge. That'd be like us losing Curry.

The Knicks have had injures and suspensions this season, but in my mind, not to anyone as important as Krstic is to the Nets.

Anyway... fact is, division is up for grabs and every team has lost a key player in one way or another. We'll see what happens.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

it'll effect them no doubt, but last time i checked the Nets had a crappy record this season w/Krstic still in the lineup... so to use that as the reason why they will now all of a sudden lose the division is a copout as far as i'm concerned... same as using Curry going out as the reason the Knicks don't win the division would be for any Knick supporter... truth is, both teams have been wildly inconsistent this season & overall, just not that good.

Bip please don't pretend that Larry Brown didn't have a lot to do with the won loss record last year...In my opinion and mine only...Larry tanked the season...I somehow think that sports writers can see this and will report on it...Sports writers used this opportunity to dump on Isiah, Marbury and Dolan...Not many people called out LB...Maybe I'm a fan that is not looking at things objectively but I have always though this was a talented group that had the potential to play better...It's not a championship team but I think we are seeing a foundation being formed..It was Larry's job to develop this but he refused in an attempt to gain control of the organization...So at the beginning of the year when they said the Knicks would be cellar dwellars again because there is no leadership and vision for the future there will be lots of crow to eat as the Knicks and Isiah begin to prove all of them wrong...

Fair enough, the Knicks have been wretched the past few years and have deserved all the negative vitriol hurled their way...that said, I thought the "what will be so funny..." comment from Chad Ford was telling. Instead of acknowledging the obvious strides this team has made, he is already anticipating his next round of jabs at Isiah and furthering this childish vendetta he has against the Knicks, Isiah or both.

In any event, living on the West Coast I have first hand knowledge in regards to just how much animosity the Big Apple generates from the left coast especially, but also the south and Middle America
