hey, earl and martin started it on another thread, but we gotta give jb his own.

as much as i always loved his funk, his early 60's stuff as a straight-out soul singer was equally pure knock-out.

if you never heard them, do yourself a favor and check out his 2 live at the apollo albums.

One of my favs of all time...such sad news this was.

Chuck D pointed out how ironic it was that Gerald Ford died the day after, when James wrote 'Funky President' specifically about him in 1975.

The man also gets his due as one of the most important influences if not the most important influence on Hip-Hop.

R.I.P. Godfather of Soul...

Forum Po Po and #33 for a reason...

THE GODFATHER IS GONE

James Brown, who was scheduled to perform in New Jersey and New York later this week, died just before 2am on Christmas morning in Atlanta. The revolutionary musician and singer who set many of the trends in R&B for decades was 73. The cause was congestive heart failure. James had been hospitalized with pneumonia.
The Reverend Al Sharpton, a long-time friend of James', has stated that James Brown's body will be laid on the stage of the Apollo Theater on Thursday from 1pm - 8pm for public viewing. The Apollo was the site of many of James Brown's legendary concerts. Thousands of his fans are expected to turn out.

Listen for an eight-hour tribute this Saturday on WBGO (88.3 FM, 10am - 2pm) and Sunday on KISS (98.7 FM, noon - 4pm).
