Punch Leads To Serious Injury For Andriuskevicius
23rd December, 2006 - 1:43 pm
Chicago Sun-Times -
Martynas Andriuskevicius was brutally punched by D-League teammate Awvee Storey during practice on Thursday.

Both players are members of the Dakota Wizards.

''He has a skull fracture, severe concussion and a two-centimeter hematoma on the left side of his brain,'' Andriuskevicius' agent Herb Rudoy said. ''They've been monitoring him because they're concerned about seizures.

''From what I'm told, when he got hit unexpectedly, he went out cold instantly and fell right back on his head.''

Storey has been suspended indefinitely.

This happened in the NBA-run D-League. Perhaps next time some player lands a punch there is gonna be a knee jerk reaction to this.

Damn, now thats a punch. I wonder if it was a sucker punch though. If it was, if I was in any way in Andriuskevicius's entourage, I'd be ordering a hit right now.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Here is the whole article it's even worse when reading the whole thing.

Martynas Andriuskevicius, whom the Bulls recently assigned to the National Basketball Development League's Dakota Wizards, is lucky to be alive today after being punched by Awvee Storey, a Proviso West product and Wizards teammate.

The altercation took place during practice Thursday. The 7-2, 240-pound Andriuskevicius, 20, spent Thursday night in intensive care in Bismarck, N.D.

The 6-6, 225-pound Storey has been suspended indefinitely while the NBA and NBDL investigate.

There's also been a police report written, according to Det. Dean Clarkson. But Clarkson said Andriuskevicius does not want to press charges, making an arrest unlikely. Clarkson said the investigation is pending.

''Awvee's a terrific kid,'' said his Chicago-based agent Mark Bartelstein. ''They had an altercation in practice, and it's really unfortunate.

''I know Awvee feels terrible about it. It wasn't a situation where he just attacked the kid.''

One source said Storey said something to Andriuskevicius, who went over to Storey and got punched.

''He's lucky he's not dead,'' Rudoy said. ''But I think he'll be fine.

''He won't be playing basketball for a long time. They have to be very concerned about his skull fracture healing.''

Rudoy expects Andriuskevicius to be released from the hospital in the next few days and return to Chicago for further examination.

Bulls general manager John Paxson called Andriuskevicius on Friday morning, and Bulls doctors are monitoring the situation.

Storey and Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas were arrested over Memorial Day weekend in Miami Beach for refusing to obey police. The charges later were dropped.

Damn...Awvee was the same guy Arenas wouldn't leave because Arenas wanted to be there for his teammate. Damn I guess that lesson didn't sink in.

Awvee:

The kid he punched is the guy the Cavs drafted to replace Big Z a while ago.

As a side note, Awvee is about 30 yrs old, the kid he punched is 20. Awvee is a jackass.

I always thought that the best punishment for hurting someone on purpose on the court-and it should apply to this situation, too-is the player did the hitting is twice as long as the player who got hurt is out.

However, looking at what he did to this kid-the kid can't even drink yet!-it may be something very severe.

Well these see men so shouldn't the authorities get involved? Its like these guys do whatever they want and they just get fined.

Storey can forget about the nba now. The nba will black list him like they do the rest.

Still the story says that the kid that got hurt ran up on storey and storey let him have it. If guys are arguing and its getting heated then something like that is bound to happen. For one if I was having a heated argument with a guy especially playing ball I'm not gonna take my eye off them. If they start walking towards me I'm gonna get them first. Buleedat. I've seen it happen I have been apart it too. Its unfortunate but if it was me I would be in jail for attempted manslaughter.

Hope the kid makes it through this but I guess he will think twice about approaching a dude without getting ready for whatever.

I hope this Storey guy is criminally charged for that.

And yes, Storey is a thug and has no place in the NBA. I hope he winds up in jail.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

some of us always try to justify fighting. Yet nothing good ever comes out of it. One guy gets hurt, the other guy gets suspended and probably ends his career. Hope the punch was worth it.

I'm as competitive(probably more so) than most people on this planet. I've been heated to the point where I've lost control and gotten a technical or shoved someone. But I'm too concerned/focused on improving my game or trying to win a game to be worried about punching someone. It's ridiculous. It doesn't get you anywhere.

To me it's a question of self control and context. When do you fight, why, and how hard? Any time you fight it could turn out badly for you or the other guy so fights should be rare indeed.

This is just a sad story. Honestly as a Kid and teenager, I had my share of fights, hell as an adult I had some brush ups... LOL.. but seriously, fighting accomplishes nothing, and what I hate most is as grown men, punching another man, especially when he is not expecting it.. Not cool.. even in a heated argument, it is easy to tell someone not to come up on you, but Honestly, I think this story guy hauled off and popped this kid, without feeling threatened... I really believe that... I find that act criminal...

I'm with you. Outside of self-defense, boxing etc. is there a situation where throwing a punch actually nets you something positive?
