Sorry to go off topic, but I felt that this was an important thing to discuss, even if it is OT and not about the Knicks. Please feel free to repost on your myspaces and sites.

A lot of you probably don't know about The 2006 Military Commisions Act, a law that was passed and not really talked about in the news in October because the news wanted to keep you asleep and focus on the Mark Foley Scandel. Basically the bill states that Bush can throw anyone in jail who he feels is an "enemy combatant" which is someone who is a threat to the US Government. Habeus Corpus is GONE, and your first Ten Amendment Rights are also GONE. How come we don't know about this? Ask the US Government that. People are being taken out of their homes and thrown in "Concentration Camps" or "Detainee Camps" and its happening right now, tonight, today, all the time. It's never on the news because they don't want people to panic and be outraged. Well, my friend, I am outraged, and if you aren't outraged, then you must be sleeping because this means that they can put you in jail without any rights to a trial.... This means they can keep you in jail for as long as they want.... Let's win this war by getting the word out and filling the people with knowledge.

I've never heard of this before, but here's the Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_Commissions_Act_of_2006
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

They can start by putting Isish away.

Lets look at this for a second, it this a problem if used properly? Sure it can be abused, but to what extent would it be?

Is it fair to lock up people who have cause to do us harm, but the fact they have yet to strike leaves them innocent? Will it result in some innocent Arab national who got mixed up with some bad people he though were friends? Yeah, I am sure it will happen. Is it fair when "insurgents" hide amung civilians and we bomb the crap out of them anyway? Collateral damage.

I was talking to an older women about two years ago and we were talking about the Japenese internment camps we had during WW2 and I made a sarcastic remark how silly it was and she snapped "yeah, it was wrong, but we were scared, very scared. WE were not worried about little old ladies, but were worried about the true intentions of these Japanese living here. Our boys were getting killed by them and we were scared!". It kind took me back to the moment and had to understand what people were thinking.

We are at war. We have people living amung us who tomorrow might stroll into an grade school and start shooting up kindergarden children and hoisting granades. How hard would that be. It would be illegal to arrest someone planning such an act, but now it looks like we can.

Are we living in a police state? Is this "V for Vendetta" yet? Are we being kept in fear to accomplish oil profits? Are there terror cells here in this country who wish to do us harm from within?

WHat am I willing to lose to protect my safety and keep our society as it is.

There is a lot wrong with our country and the "american way". But its still the best game in town and pretty permissive regarding ones ability to express themselves regarding opinion, politics, religion, their art, and opportunity with little or no restriction.

For a kid who lives in his parents basement and makes zombie movies for a living thats quite a cut and paste job to pile on that opinion.

If your outraged, is this your plan of response? Cut and paste and send the message thru? What are you outraged about? Are they taking people for their sexual orientation? Race? or politics? Are you outraged by this, or just got nothing better to do? Are you worried that if they can do this what is next? Worried that the gestopo might shut down the next Zombie movie convention? OR arrest some Islamic cell who wants to blow up your old highschool?

Does it put pressure on the many thousands of good muslims who are good citizens of not just this country but the WORLD? Yeah it might. Is it fair? Hell no, its not! Since the Muslam world is usually outraged over our intervention in thier world perhaps if they took care of their own this might not be such a big deal anymore. Perhaps these good citizens need to step up and and take sides. I understand when push comes to shove the muslim will defend his brother against a non believer regardless of his guilt. If so, then are they guilty too? Should they be held responsable to step up and do somting? If they believe that non believers are not worthy of this equality then they have made their choice.

Since its kind of hard to figure out who the good ones are vs. the bad ones perhaps its time the good ones distanced themselves from the evil doers. This is how our society works. We have a history of of being a melting pot of culture. Over time our ghetto residents who came to this country blended in and moved to all parts of the country. In many countries, as well as here you have Muslim communities that wish to remain secular and almost govern themselves. I think its wrong to take the benefits of a basic permissive society and not give back to it.

I don't like this act, but I understand its necessary as we are at war with people who clash greatly with our ideals and wish to destroy us for them.

I will fight to defend my ability to be critical of Isiah!

I'm familiar with it, read the lines you were talking about. It's not something that is going to be used on an American any time soon I hope (Barring war with Iran, etc.) but I feel it will be used to control "dissidents" and not terrorists. Then again, they will label people who are not with the "regime" as terrorists. It's been done before. 99.9999% of Muslims are not terrorists and this bill was written as part of a bigger plan imo. It just looks like (thank God) that Bush's plan and support has been lost. But there is some fight left in the Neo-cons, they might try something stupid with Iran like another "Gulf of Tonkin".

The Bill is worded far too ambiguously to make me feel safe. When and If the Sh*t hits the fan, we will see it in full force, sorry to say. And Bush can go down in history with the Nazii's that his family helped support. Look at what his Grandpa did during WWII.

I have a ? to those regarding this law.

If you are a voter and voted Bush in office, which leads to him passing such a law under his watch, are you as a voter responsible in any form because you casted your vote for him?

Something I never have understood about human society in general and that's why have humans convinced themselves that imperfect humans are capable of ruling over imperfect humans?
