Maggette Wants Trade

It appears Corey Maggette and the Clippers are headed toward a breakup soon.

Maggette's agent, Rob Pelinka, recently asked the team to trade the seven-year veteran, and the Clippers have offered Maggette to the Philadelphia 76ers as part of a proposed package for disgruntled star guard Allen Iverson.

And even if they fail to acquire Iverson, the Clippers are expected to trade Maggette this season.

Change can be good, Maggette said.

"Me and Coach [Mike] Dunleavy ... we don't see eye to eye," Maggette said Friday night before the Clippers' 109-99 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers at the Rose Garden. "Coach doesn't respect what I do. If that's the case, it might be time for me to go, move on and have a new beginning. It's better for me to go."

Dunleavy said he must do what's in the best interests of the Clippers.

"I do respect his ability," Dunleavy said. "But I play him according to what's best for our team." [READ]

I would trade Nate and Crawford for Maggette because he can score and we need to consolidate some of our talent, but really Maggette is not a great defensive player. He is not the answer for what ails us.

Maggette is better than Q, at least offensively. He puts a ton of pressure on the D and when he gets his minutes is usually among the league leaders in freethrow attenmpts. Maggette is a natural 2 guard which we dont have at this point. I would love to get him but I don't think we have the goods to get him.

Maggette is great when healthy. He is a HUGE injury risk.

Agreed JoeC and small foward isn't even a need we need to be fixing. Maggette is a guy you get if you think you can win now.

PErsonally I think Maggette plays good D, it's just that he is foul prone. I would take him if JJ2 wasn't on the team, but I think I would stick with Q over Maggette right now.

Agreed. Magette's also had years where he drew around 10 FTAs per game! He's a lot better than Q on offense and probably only slightly worse on defense.

I love Q, but let's be honest here, Corey Maggette is a better offensive player and just as good defensively. If the were offered a deal for Maggette, I'd do it an instant.

The ironic thing is that we could really use someone like Sam Cassell. A veteran guard who knows how to win.

A 38 yr old pg. No thanks. What do we really need him for? To get us a few more W's. Id rather get a young guard to grow with Curry, Lee and frye.
