This is why some want the knicks to lose games, maybe the only way this guy will ever sell the garden.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

THe garden holds extra value to Cablevision as it owns the TV outlets by which it goes thru.

THe best thing were if Dolan just stepped aside and stopped running the garden and its teams! This guy is an idiot, but I would rather have a deep pocket owner who knows he's an idiot. Better yet, a smart man knows his limitations and delegates to the expert.

Lets hope Dolan gets smart quick!

An owner who needs to sqeeze profit to service the huge debt might cut costs to the point of diminishing returns. Not that spending big does anything as we all know, but all we need is an injection of higher intellegence around here.

Paying Larry Brown, whom is smarter than anyone in the building 28 million to go away after one year is a pretty good indicater of how stupid ownership is.

He owes it to his shareholders to stop giving away money!

No, the best thing would be for a consortium of private equity shops (Blackstone, KKR, Carlyle, etc) to take Cablevision private as has been rumored twice in the past 2 years. This would pay off Dolan extremely well, but they would also look to spin off most of CV's assets, and I'm assuming that would include the Garden. Not only would this provide new ownership, but at least it would provide some fiscal sanity -- The garden would no longer make up 3% of company revenues -- it would make up 100%. The knicks would still have a financial advantage by being in NYC, but the curse of an unlimited pocketbook in the hands of idiots would be no more.

Dolan himself on Mike and the Maddog said he has no plans to sell.

Twice in the past 2 years he's hired extremely prominent investment banks to try and take this conglomorate private and cash out. If the right deal comes along, he's selling.

My favorite part:
"I work with a great bunch of people," he said. "It's a big-time challenge. It's got lots of critics. And I think that I look forward to our successes and bemoan our losses. And if I was in the lumber business, I wouldn't have that.

"I might be just as successful.
And that can be a good business, too. But it's enjoyable to have the challenge."

Dude, but for your father, you are a miserable failure.

The dolans are looking to go private so they don't have shareholders, not cash out.

The big problem on cable companies is they want to start long term capital investments that, in public company, are non starters.

Dolan's aren't selling. The only scenario that would get them out is if a bunch of private equity guys thought the Knicks/Rangers/Garden might have more value and offered them a super premium.

That, or the dolans got into financial problems and had to sell.

Could this be good news: Dolan considering selling the garden.
