But as much as he said he is convinced that Thomas has the answers, and as much as he likes him, Dolan promised he would cast an objective eye on the situation when the season comes to an end. There will be no self-denial about the state of the team and Thomas' job assessment.

"I'm a recovering alcoholic," he said. "I know about denial. I'll do my best to be honest."

Dolan also remained steadfast in his opinion that the current mess is Brown's fault, or at least that Brown set them back in their rebuilding process. He said the players Thomas assembled are good and that Brown messed it all up last year.

"Nothing can make me feel good about the fact we lost last season," he said. "We have good young players. They could have been developed better, we could be farther along today than we are now, and that's my fault. I feel bad about that.

Asked if there was anything positive out of Brown's one year in New York, Dolan couldn't find a single thing.

"I am bereft to find anything positive out of that experience," he said, "and I apologize to the fans for making a bad decision."

like i said before i like what dolan had to say in the mike and the mad dog interview....... I think he is committed to doing the right thing finally. Time will tell but it seems like if this doesent work out hes gutting everything and starting over

No. An apology has two pieces:

a) I'm sorry
b) What *I* did wrong and how the situation will never happen again.

Dolan's "apology" had two pieces:

a) Not a sincere apology - "I'm sorry, but really it was the other guy's fault".
b) We're already witnessing the situation happening again with Isiah, but Dolan is in denial about it.

If Dolan wants to truly apologize, admit that Isiah has caused a mess and fire him. Then he'll get some patience.

No, I don't. I think he's just too loyal to a man that was entered into a difficult situation (the situation Layden left the team in) and handled it in the WORST way possible. The Knicks are the laughing stock of the NBA and someone has to be accountable for that. Isiah was in charge, he should be held accountable.

Right now, Dolan has successfully established that accountability does not exist at the Garden. I am not impressed with him, but he is not the Debbil. Isiah is.

What the phuch does this mills guy do anyway? Owners who are clueless should just be quiet and let his people talk. Dolan does not know a thing about basketball so let his people talk for him. Isiah has lost his image cred so why not have Mills speak? Can he speak? Can't the knick president speak? Or just take pictures?

Heres a good idea, since we blow money around hear anyway, hire Bill Bradley to over see things around the garden. Sort of an "advisor" and pay him some godforsaken amount to do it. 5-10 mil and do it part time. Call it the "concious" director. Anytime we plan on hiring, firing or signing anyone we just ask him if its a stupid idea. does not have to be a good idea, just doulbe check on the idiodic nature of it. Like JJ-1 for example. Who thought besides Isiah this was a good idea? Mills? Even to hire Isiah? Hire/Fire Larry. Go on Letterman and diss Chaney? Try to hire Fratello and because it went to press then diss the idea and panic hire Wilkens? Fire Marv Albert?

Etc, etc! Some gotta be a voice of reason around here.
