People always talk about how talented we are. I think people confuse depth with above average talent. For our starters at their respective positions rate these players.

Above average? Average? Below average?

Curry: Above average, Average, or Below average? at Center
D Lee: Above average, Average, or Below average? at PF
Jeffries: Above average, Average, or Below average? at SF
Qrich: Above average, Average, or Below average? at SG
Marbury: Above average, Average, or Below average? at PG

I think people over rate our talent. I think we have a very deep team but that our starters are average level at best.
I LOVED how Curry just exploded in the 4th, speaking as a fan of the Raptors, Curry looked well, scary I think is the word. Or Shaq-like Curry: 19.1ppg-7.3rpg-58%fg

Curry: Slightly above average for a C. C is extremely weak, though.
D Lee: Average for a starting PF
Jeffries: Incomplete (career-wise, slightly below average)
Q Rich: Average for a starting SG/SF
Marbury: Below average
Francis: Slightly below average

I know the Lee and Q ratings might surprise people but if you can list 12 to 15 starters who are better than the player, then the player is not above average. IMO to be an "average starter," you have to be a very good NBA player (at any position except center).

i disagree... i think we have 3 starters that i would rather have over at least half the other starters on other teams.

Curry at C - above average (only maybe 6-8 other C's in the game better than him right now, & he's still improving)

D Lee at PF - above average (pound for pound 1 of the best rebounders in the game right now in his 2nd season, & has everything you want in a player when it comes to the intangibles)

Jefferies at SF - below average (good defender but no offense)

Q Rich at SG - above average (very good rebounder & defender, can score in the low post & on the perimeter, & brings leadership intangibles to the table)

Marbury at PG - below average (when you have guys like Milt Palacio & Tyronn Lue torching you on a regular basis, you're pretty much done)

With 3 guys above average and 2 guys below average as starters doent that spell average over all?

Qrich at SG is a tough call for me. I dont know whether he will be above average or average at sg. I think JJ is below average at sf.

Qrich could be above average at SG. Ill have to see him play more SG before deciding. I'm a Qrich fan but there are a lot of good sgs

you had said you thought our starters were average at best but rated 2 of them above average yourself... i guess you were talking on an overall level, in which case i agree, our starting 5 is average at best as a whole, but if Curry & D Lee continue to progress & we replace Marbury w/a PG who can actually play, then i think you have to say this team can be playoff contenders.

yes I'm talking over all as a group.
I agree our frontcourt is promissing but our backcourt is weak.

I think all of our starters, aside from Curry, are near the bottom of the rankings if you went team by team and starter by starter. I love what Q and Lee bring to the table, but there are about 20 guys that are starting for other teams, that I'd rather have starting on our team than those guys.

i made a "Who would you rather have" thread on Q a while back & most people said they preferred him over at least half the other starters in the league... damn, where's that search feature when you need it?

Jefferies looks like a bad signing, i know he is injured and just getting back and that takes time, but he does nothing offensively and he is not that good on defense that we can afford to play a man down every possession

This is actually a good thread.
Above average? Average? Below average?

Curry: Above average, Average, or Below average? at Center
D Lee: Above average, Average, or Below average? at PF
Jeffries: Above average, Average, or Below average? at SF
Qrich: Above average, Average, or Below average? at SG
Marbury: Above average, Average, or Below average? at PG

I think Curry is our only above average player, and that's only because the center position is generally not a position where you get a lot of scoring out of. I'll be honest, I've knocked Curry a lot, but I'm starting to think if you put the right players around him, you could have a solid (but not championship) team. Unfortunately I don't think we *have* the right players to put around him and I'm not sure how to acquire those.

David Lee, I like him a lot, but at the end of the day, his defense is average, at best, and he struggles a bit against the stronger PFs. This may be something that will improve in time, and I think Lee will eventually be above average, I don't think he's there yet. He's definitely above average for a guy coming off the bench, though.

Jeffries is just not a starting quality player. I explain more below.

Quentin Richardson is my favorite Knick. I really like his game and style. But, at the end of the day, there's a lot of good SGs in the league. Q may be slightly above average, but I'm not sure he's one of the top 10 SGs in the league... but he may be there soon.

Marbury is our worst player. Worst attitude, worst player. I'd rather have one of the Knicks dancers as our PG at this point. Mebury can go to hell.

I agree. I don't like the signing since we have Balkman. I liked Jeffries as a guy off the bench, but not a starter. Since Balkman is already our guy off the bench, Jeffries looks like he doesn't fit in.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Seems a lot of people have our starters as average as a group so then maybe we are not as talented as many people say. I think we are very deep but our starters are average at best

Curry: Above average at Center
D Lee: Average at PF
Jeffries: Average at SF
Qrich: Average at SG
Marbury: Below average at PG

Above average? Average? Below average? Talent at starter?
