Is it fair to say that the reason why there is so much hate towards Marbury is because of his big contract?

I remember Houston getting the same treatment from a lot of "fans"...but once he was gone, we realized how valuable he was to the team. Putting LAST YEAT aside, we haven't heard a peep from Marbury...he is playing within the team...taken a huge hit on his scoring and he still getting jumped on.

so do you hate him and want him gone because of his contract or game?

I think its a combo of things. francis has a big contract. he doesnt get the same hatered. I thought H20 was all class. Never had a problem with him
I LOVED how Curry just exploded in the 4th, speaking as a fan of the Raptors, Curry looked well, scary I think is the word. Or Shaq-like Curry: 19.1ppg-7.3rpg-58%fg

It's the scowl and the losing. If he smiles more and we win the problems would mostly evaporate.

Ditto. Allan Houston was nothing more than a shooter who made a lot of money but he was a class-act and represented himself and this franchise as well as anyone could. Also his shotty defense was often times covered up by the Knicks good defenders (Oakley, Camby, Ewing, Kurt Thomas.) Marbury on the other hand says stupid things in the press, displays poor body language on the court and hasn't worked towards shaking his coach-killer and poor teammate label since he's been here.

Houston never takes nights off (or seasons off for that matter), he is a good guy in the locker room and leads by example.

It's the contract, the scowl, and the way he is so disconnected from reality (i.e., thinking he is the best PG in the NBA).

I believe that Marbury had the talent to be the best PG in the L. He never had the mentality and that is too bad.

I think that if he had been traded to the Knicks instead of the Nets 10 years ago, he would have been forced by the veterans to become a pass first PG at a time when he was more impressionable and adaptable, and his entire career would be viewed in a different light.

>his shotty defense

His first couple of years on the Knicks, he was a defensive libility, yes. However, his D got better every year. He became a better than average defender and while he was never going to be a defensive all-star, how many times, in big games, did you see him take care of business? His D was overrated at first but underrated later on. He didn't quite have the body, the speed, or the aggression to have great D but he made up for it by playing very smart ball. He bothered with off-ball D, and kept his mistakes down.

One of the things that gets me about Marbury is that the guy could be one of the great defensive players but he only seems to care about it every third game. And he's no smarter now than he was when he played with the Wolves. (Remember that awesome Marbury-Houston 2OT duel from back in the day? Well, the Knicks won in part because Marbury tried to outgun Houston instead of focusing on D and stopping him. Nice game for us but a dumb game for Marbury.)

Hey your preaching to the choir. I never said that Allan didn't TRY on defense, because he did, but he just wasn't a very good defensive player. My opinion of course.

Played defense in 1999, barely after that so one can say he took nights off if they talk about his defense.

Swishfm3: Straight up, its his game. He is not the player he once was and if he came back to that, he wouldn't compliment Curry's game. Ray Allen would be perfect.

I disagree with this. I don't think he wasn't trying on defense, I just think he wasn't very good after that but he was TRYING.

Totally agree. I personally feel he would have been best maximized on Riley's Heat. And I think Riles may have been able to reach him like he reached guys like Patrick, Mason, Oakly, Starks...

Marbury's situation has been worse than Houston's. Franchise-killing contract and poor attitude to boot. Allan only had one of those problems.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Allan Houston defense has always horrible. It wasn't until Sprewell came over and started bailing him out that it didn't become has noticeable. imo.

and whats the deal with the 'body language' problem? Doesnt seem to bother Detroit (R.Wallace)

Winning a championship can sweep a lot of things under the rug.

agreed... i used to like Marbury as a player, but over the years he's been here i've grown to really despise the way he carries himself & the way he puts himself above everything & everyone else.
