Berman to Vaccaro UK Mafia - You're Wrong!
By MARC BERMAN

...

Eddy Curry's career-high 36-point explosion and three blocks Saturday night - his ninth straight 20-plus game - is just another reason to hold fire. There are others, beyond the Knicks having an Atlantic Division-high eight victories. Maybe Mike the UK Mafia wants to fire Rod Thorn tomorrow, too.

We can't make a final evaluation of this roster until his most important signing - Jared Jeffries - plays. Perhaps Jeffries is not the vitally important defensive piece that Isiah has talked about, but at least you have to see how it looks.

Their 8-14 record seems as unimpressive as every other team in the East. James Dolan has given Thomas a season - and he really wants to give him the whole season to evaluate all the young guys.

With Curry emerging as an All-Star candiate, the rush for Isiah's head now looks premature. Isiah's legacy is completely tied to Curry. There are so few dominating centers in this game. The Knicks may have a genuine franchise piece to build around. We don't know yet.

Vaccaro The Mafia wrote every Thomas trade has been "mindless, senseless.'' Is the Curry trade senseless? They got Curry and gave up Mike Sweetney and Tim Thomas. As for the draft-pick part of the deal, the Knicks have Renaldo Balkman, whose playing, while Tyrus Thomas is not. And this summer's draft-pick swap might not be noteworthy, if the Bulls continue to struggle.

David Lee is a great complement to Curry. And they have enough scoring guards for balance. But again, it's all about whether you believe in Curry. If you do believe at age 23, Curry is going to be an All-Star center, you can't even think about firing Isiah right now.

Isiah has been wrong on the fans since Day 1. He's been too obsessed with the boos and telling the fans when and how to cheer. The line he uttered the other day he'd like to have back, about fans not "understanding'' the game the way he sees it.

It's funny to hear the fans chant "Ed-dy'' the game after "Fire Thomas.'' Can't have it both ways.

But Isiah still is wrong about the fans. He may not be wrong about Curry. That's all that should matter.

Well written and to the point. Dolan said he's giving Isaiah the season and he should do just that. The Curry move is looking a lot better. Even Francis seems to have his head on straight.

IT should have been more tactful in talking about the fans. But what he said was true. He's in his second stint as a GM and his second stint as a head coach. He's a hall of fame player. Of course he knows more about basketball than the fans.

Vaccaro's a cheap shot artist. His column is one of the worst in the New York press.

the only thing wrong is the stupid comments Isiah has made about the fans. People that pay to go to those games (especially if they have courtside seats) want to cheer and watch good effort. When they get lousy effort they boo, and the players deserve to be booed for getting bad effort.

JVG made a great point that he liked when the crowd booed poor effort because maybe then the message would get through to the players.

Stupid article. Rod Thorn? How many Atlantic division titles and playoff runs has he engineered? How many has Isiah?

The thing is that the NY fan's don't only boo poor effort, at least not this season. They boo poor outcomes on the scale of minutes in a game. You can give good effort but still perform poorly, especially over the course of a few minutes.

I believe there is plenty of evidence to demonstrate how the idea that fans at MSG only boo poor effort is a total myth. There have been MORE than a few times that it has been over mistakes, or missed shots, etc. that often have little to do with effort.

And then I've seen those that say that the booing is about "effort" then change/divert the argument when confronted with this evedence that it is then about the history of Isiah and the Knicks vs. other teams that aren't booed, or are not targets of criticism on the same level -- which has nothing to do with the current effort seen on the floor that first explained the booing.

I understand MSG's new ad campaign will revolve around this theme: "You're stupid, so just shut the **** up and watch basketball, or stay home!"

When are some are going to stop using attempts at personally humiliating posters as a means of proping themselves up rather than critiquing the evidence that supports a point of view one disagrees with?

Why does he gotta be "mafia"? Because his names "Vaccaro"? That's just more negative sterotyping going on on UK.

I cant remember Knick players diving on a floor or crashing the boards but getting booed because shots dont fall.

Part of the problem is the Knicks are a very poor defensive team. Part of it is effort, part of it we dont have good defenders. Overall the team effort on defense is lacking. Guards are slow to rotate, bigs are slow to help, etc.
I'm sure those that watch (especially courtside) see the same thing. So if the Knicks have 4-5 bad possesions it usually results a run by the other team.

Its always the same plays... offensive fouls on bad one on one play, same with traveling and leaving guards open for wide open 3's

Tom, is there a PER boo rating

Are Knicks so boring that it is more entertaining to discuss what the MSG crowd is doing at the games?

There are some stretches when we became so stagnant with the ball that I am falling to sleep.
It is especially evident when you have another game on some national channel and switching back and force.
Knicks/Griz and Knicks/Bucks was like some D-league games.

So let’s thanks the MSG crowd for providing some entertainment
