briggs, this kid has to be the worst defensive player in the league. He was constantly torched by the knicks and was getting beat like a drum last night off the dribble. He got hot from 3, that happens, but his defense is horrible...

I don't see that. And at an athletic 6-6 225 all he needs to do is try harder. We have guys who simply cant move their fet anymore. I don't believe that a package of two first rou8nd picks was less inviting than a throw-in salary. JR smith is better than ANY of our 4 guards by a wide-margin. I just think there are things we COULDVE done to change the team atad more from 23 wins other than Jefferies and picks. The mentality here is that the team is a winner but hasnt been together[but what NBA team has all of its guys all of the time???] and that our lineup and results will change drastically with the insertion fo Jefferies. We certainly will be BIGGER which will help our D, but we still don't have the guys who will be able to keep quick guards out of the lane and we lack shot blocking--so what is realy going to change. I know iT is smarter than all of the collective brains here--i know he knew Q rich would do a 360?[yeah right] and just imagine if he didnt--we'd be 3-18. It's just roll the dice and lets see if 7 comes up here. There will be an excuse everyday. But this whole thing couldve and shouldve been done much differently.

Briggs- totally agree with you. Dont remember your post but I also posted a thread last yr, with the Knicks trading Butler and Nate for JR when Scott was trying to give him away.

I hate to torture myself but imagine a backcourt of JR and Marcus Williams.

He's only 20 yrs old and you want him to be great two-way player?

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

This is truely a grass is green on the other side story. JR. Smith is just another Jamal Crawford.

JR Smith is exactly what the Knicks need in the backcourt. A true SG like himself and a true PG would really turn this team around.

You ever seen JR Smiths shot? He is NOT another Jamal Crawford. Smith shoots 46% from the field and 40% from 3. Jamal could only dream of that kind of conversion rate.

jamal is only 30+ pounds lighter with 1/2 the power and athletiscm 5 years older and has never proved he can shoot straight for more than 3 games in a row.

I have seen him play two times this year once against the KNicks and last night. I gotta give it to him last night though he was on fire. But we have seen Jammal hot too. Besides you know that whenever a player puts the orange and blue on they turn to crap. JR Smith lacks defense the real problem here in NY.

Its a little shocking to me no one here is mentioning the emergence of Monta Ellis.

JR Smith is a headcase. you think he'd be happy here coming off the bench for QRich or Francis? I'm glad the people who have the easy fix-it plans here don't have to account for reality.

People say Marbury is a selfish headcase... then pine for a younger selfish headcase.

Thanks for the credit Briggs.

This kid is gonna be sick. However, it's funny this kid is just like what Curry is now, strong offensive, bad defensive (although he is playing AWESOME tonight), and some guys are saying he is no worth it because of that. This kid is absolutely worth takng a chance on, especially for as little as he could've been had for.

Briggs, i see your point to some degree, but I watch quite a bit of denver games, and this kid just flat out gives up on defense, to me that is inexcuseable, I understand if you just don't know how to defend at 20, but the effort sucks. He is a great athlete, but I am not sure if he is what we need.. another scorer? I want to move away from that, I want to gamble on a player who at least shows promise on both sides of the ball...

J.R. Smith has been a pleasant surprise, but he still has a long way to go before I would say he is a complete 2 guard. But it looks like he will get there eventually. It looks like it would have been a solid move in hindsight, but at the time Smith was seen as a problem player that could not get along with Scott and he had not shown the shooting accuracy that he is showing in Denver. In fact, Chicago gave him away to Denver for 2 SECOND round picks I believe. We would have looked like idiots trading our first round picks for him and since he would not be getting the minutes he is getting in Denver, people would be asking why IT got the kid. Personally, I like Q better as a SG. He is a heady player, plays better defense, can still hit the 3, and can score in the low post.
