I was just wondering. Has anybody thought of a way for a player to bypass the draft and directly sign with a team. Could you drop out of college and join the developmental league? (I guess you get drafted into that league but not sure on when it occurs relative to the nba draft). Without sitting out for a few years after getting drafted by a team you didn't want to play for...

Any ideas? I heard Oden really wants to play for the Knicks

Ok, Imagine you are definitely going to be big. So, you can make waaaay more money playing in a big city cause of the endorsements. And a part of your add campaign is "Breaking the Rules". Kids would eat it up and buy your shoes (ok, maybe not, but there is a chance). Getting drafted by a small market team wouldn't do ya well, or whatever reason it may be. I just know there have got to be many players out there who would play much better playing for the team that is in their heart.

The money point is a good one. You are limited by the salary cap, at least at first, but remember, the money from endorsements could be much much more. But that initial salary is an important one (at any job).

Another question would be, how much power does a top-five talented player have? Can he push the team that drafted him to trade him? Stating that he will never dress up for this team?

Good idea, I think the next time I go to visit my boys at Ohio State Ill bring it up to Oden. The only thing with this idea is good old Maurice Clarett. If there was ever an example of why you shouldnt break the rules its that dude.

Yeah, you don't want to create a bad name for yourself. If you don't turn out, you won't have any doors opening for you.

What if you drop out of college right after the nba draft is finished and before the nbdl draft happens. Could you get in that way? Probably not...

Wouldn't it be interesting to see the NY knicks comprised of mostly NYers and players who want to play for them?

I've wondered that myself...does a college player have to enter the draft?

I think high picks have leverage in the right situation. Didn't Charlotte originally draft Kobe, who forced the trade to LALA land (by saying he would not play for them)?
