I don't know if Balkman wouldve been picked in round 1 if we didnt select him, but he has proven to be first round worthy. If a Balkman pick started the trend of defensive high energy players--then Mchugh Mattis from South Florida is going to be a top 20 pick. I noticed him last year a couple of times, but you don't think qa 6-5/6-6 player who is not overly built--like balkman--really has a place in the nBA first round--that these types of players must prove it beyond the college level--but let me tell you this guy is sick and he will be a first round pick and people will know his name come draft time. We have a Balkman--but if he trends out this kid is top 20 material--he is the sickest defender in college basketball-if you take out Oden and maybe Thabeet--he is either 2 or 3 but number 1 in perimeter D. I know some guy was hyping Paul harris here, but this kid is just sick--the real deal and no one knows about him unless you are intersted in catching big east teams that some time don't involve your own team. But I would say find a game he plays in and watch.

No I haven't , but I will look out for this guy briggs is repping.

Just looking at his stats for this season he had all his good games against cupcakes, so I looked up his stats for the 2005 season and his profiency always come down to earth against real D-1 talented teams.

BigEast tournament coming up in January, lets watch him closely.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

I watched him against St Johns and Uconn last year and he wa svery impressive defensively. He's somewhat similar to Balkman longer and just as athletic or maybe more so, but he trumps him in wingspan--thats what you notice. His wingspan might be 7-5/7-6 and he can jump--so he plays a lot bigger than 6-5 6-6 or so. He also has a nice fluidity to his offensive game--a nice FT stroke a shot out to 12 feet--but his game his like Balkman's in tersm of energy creating opportunity and he can finish it, believe me. I didnt see any talent disparity in terms of he's playing St Johns as opposed to Fairfiueld or something like that--he's bonafide against any competition--I saw Balkman play a few times in his career and for the most part his series of games in the NIT was his ticket to the pick. He never received substantial consistent PT @ SC. This kid is the franchise for SF and he is a dominator for what he does.

defensive player of the year?

that got of lead me to the last point in the comparison. When you watch this kid--watch his 1-1 defensive skills. That is a big difference--that shwta this kid excells at and he has the body to do it. Balkman has played at a great energy level is some games, but I havent seen any great evidence of being a real 1-1 stopper on any player.

Winston Salem's record is 1-11, this kid mchugh mattis from south florida who you're comparing to balkman stats seems a little tainted IMHO. At 6'5 THE KID HAD 10 blks 10 reb 22pts.

HALF OF WINSTON SALEM team is freshmen or soph 8 0ut of 15

I don't go by stats. I was trying to remember the guy that stood out in my mind when we started talking about Balkman--I forgot what team and his name is tough to remember. I wa going through some BE stuff and he poppped up. I kept thinking he was from Hofstra and finally it dawned on me where I remebered him from. He was the guy that smothered Rudy Gay when we had that tough game against SF last year. he stood out against St Johns this kid is a nasty type talent onm the D--I'll let your viewing be your guide.
