And intimidating someone isn't a skill.

It's all about size, strength, and CONFIDENCE (and just a little bit of a mean streak)

Shaq was actually a pretty average defender his whole career. He'd get killed on pick and rolls, and would make stupid fouls 1-on-1 in the post.

The one thing he did was intimdate by blocking shots and putting guys on the floor.

If Eddy keeps gaining confidence, I'm not worried about his defensive SKILL. I just hope he starts making the paint his personal nut-stomping, NLR, assrape-penitentiory, Scowelbury playground.

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Curry's lateral movement and ability to provide help defense are a lot worse than Shaq's was at the same age. I think Curry looks like he's getting in better shape and can improve his defense a little, but he'll never be the intimidator Shaq is/was.

Shaq was a light, uber athletic machine when he came into the league. If you have forgotten (or were 8 at the time BOB) go rent Blue Chips. Shaq blocked a ton of shots and played starters minutes out of the gate. He totally owned the paint AND the glass. He averaged 24/14 and 3.5 blocks his rookie season. Please dont discredit yourself by mentioning Shaq and Eddie in the same breath. Please.

when has there EVER been a bigman as physically dominating AND as athletic as Shaq? Wilt maybe? who else? all these silly comparisons of Eddy Curry to 1 of the most dominating C's of alltime is really a waste of breathe... all it does is fuel the fire of the masses that think Eddy Curry needs to live up to some unattainable goal of being another Shaquille O'Neal... that's never going to happen, & anyone who's expecting it to happen is due for a huge disappointment.

People want to compare Curry to Shaq b/c outside of Yao, no center in the league can dominate the paint like Curry can when he is rolling. He, however, is 2-3 inches shorter than Shaq, is not as athletic, and does not play help defense as well as Shaq did at Curry's age. At best, Curry will be Shaq-lite. His individual defense is not really the problem. It is his help defense. He provides absolutely no line of defense against penetrating guards. That cannot happen. Sometimes I think he is too concerned with not fouling, but he needs to learn to play defense without fouling and still get into position to block and alter shots. He will never be Shaq, who is probably no worse than the 2-3 best center to ever play this game, but he can be a championship-caliber center if he keeps working on his game.

Bill Wennington and Luc Longley were championship caliber centers. So was Nazr Mohammed.

Knicks should watch that video over and over and over in practice.

Notice how there wasn't one clip of Jordan until the very last one where he shot a 3. His game was built around the midrange jumper and post game -- both seem to be a lost art for today's guards.

Q Rich and Crawford are at there best when they're inside the 3 point line. Q Rich has a post game and crawford showed last year his midrange game could be as good as RIPs.

When are we going to get a player that has the balls to slide over and foul a guy going to the hoop like Shaq fouled Jordan. "Shaq fouled him the way you have to foul him" was what the announcer said and the little things that display toughness are what wins games.

Curry's career numbers are ****ing terrible, seriously!

Can we please think before we post please?

Shaq was not a defender?

His career defensive rebounds a game are higher than Curry’s overall rebounding numbers 7.9drbs 3.8orbs for a total of 11.8 and he blocks 2.5 (Fouls 3.4 over 36.9mpg)

Ben Wallace on the other Hand 10.7rbs 2.28blks for his career
Shaq 11.8rbs and blocks 2.5

Career Number laughing out loud right now
Curry
Blks per game (0.8)
Rbs (5.2 total vs. Shaq 7.9drbs)
Fouls 3.1 in 24minutes

Please rethink the statement

Curry will never be a great or even very good defender but he may get to the point where he isn't quite so bad. My hope is

1) That he can continue to play well inside and imprve in the nuances of the offensive game.
2) On the defensive side, he improves enough so that he is almost mediocre.
