Everyone is saying how JJ is going to help this team when he gets back. The bottom line is JJ has no offensive skills at all. He isnt a great rebounder, and cant hit free throws at all. He is a above average defender, but nothing of the lock down mode. I think you have to play him at the three and sit Steph or Steve. Our perimeter defense is awful and Frye and lee are going to get better each game. I think JJ will help shore up the defense but he doesnt need to take minutes from Frye or Lee because next year both of them will be twice the player JJ is in this league.

JJ is a beast i mean how many players average 6 & 5 over their career and don't block on shot or steal the ball once game with explosive athleticism and a 6'10 frame.....

He is not that good, we are just looking for a little defense; and if he were that type of player he would be averaging 8rbs 1.5 stls/blks

Jefrries will get some minutes but I think he has to beat out Balkman at this point.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

From what I have seen from him, JJ2 will be our best defender against SG/SF/smaller PFs (Chris Bosh types). I don't expect the world from him, but with him on the court, we will have Q, JJ2, and probably Lee out on the floor at the start of games. Those three can provide solid defense, while Marbury (hopefully) and Curry, along with Q, can provide offense. JJ2 balances out the starting lineup. That is what people are hoping he can do.

Balkman is going to be good for this team in the long run, i like the way he runs the floor, dunks the ball and drives a little fear into people......

And I think it benefits the team in the long term, just because our guards are such babies to start

Francis
Marbury
Q
JJ
Curry

And then just blow the second units off with energy, and college style defense full court pressure, because they are all in shape enough and it would be more exciting to see the tempo raised

Nate
Crawford
Balkman
Lee
Fyre

>he has to beat out Balkman at this point

From what I've seen of Balkman, assuming JJ is in game shape, that will take a game or two. Balkman mostly likely has an interesting career ahead of him but JJ has a few years of NBA experience and he's not a bad player at all. I'm not sure this is the right comparison but he's roughly Kurt Thomas minus the jump shot range in his skill level. Balkman needs a year or two, IMO, to beat out JJ.

I confess, I might be biased toward JJ just because his post-surgery, um, vision "I dreamed I was a hobbit chasing corn dogs in a field of cotton candy." is the most colorful thing to happen to the Knicks all year. Just for making me laugh, he deserves a starting spot.

It's not that people are saying JJ2 is going to save the team because he will put them on his offensive. He is going to bring continuity to the starting lineup, which many think would keep the team from looking so bad on offense because he is a ball mover. And defensively he will make it harder on other teams 2/3 players. That's why, we are hoping that JJ2 saves 2 points in these close games. It's a miss statement to make it seem that people believe JJ2 is an allstar and is going to give 20points/8rebounds/5steals/3blocks per game.

We know Curry, JJ and Q are going to start. I don't know who else will, but I hope it's Francis and Lee.

JJ does the little things. A lot of them don't show up on the stat sheet. He is in the mold of Balkman & Lee & Q. He makes good decisions, he can guard multiple positions. Its really as simple as that. He will make a good passes. He will keep balls alive on the offensive end. And while he isn't a lock down defender he will give opponents fits. We can go big with Curry, Lee/Frye, Jefferies, Ricardson, Crawford sometimes to.

Nobody knows if those things will translate into wins. One thing I like is Richardson won't have to guard the best G/F on defense. He can guard the other guy and maybe win his matchup most of the time. If he keeps producting like he has been.

I like some of the things he did in preseason before he got injured.

Simply put, JJ2 brings balance to the force.

i love what we've seen from balkman so far. i totally think he'll be a great contributor for this team soon. but realistically, he makes a lot of mistakes out there. goes for ill-advised steals, commits more charges than he should, takes shots he shouldn't, misses layups, turns the ball over. these things happen occasionally but still too much in his limited minutes, and should be relatively easy for him to improve on this season and down the road. but i do think JJ will be valuable as a player and defender who plays within himself a bit more, doesn't make mistakes and jsut plays solid all around. he may be a better player for us to open and close games, with renaldo the energy guy off the bench. we'll see.

Great point. JJ2 in the lineup may translate in not more point out of JJ then the person he is guarding, but less points from Q stopping his man and JJ2 slowing down his. THat is what JJ2 brings. And we really don't loss points with JJ2/Q/Marbury or Francis since niether have been scoring that much or the same night.

Great point..........
